So it looks like intel graphics do not like the YV12 :(

Thanks for letting us know, now I can add it to the Useful posts section with a link here :)

Thank you! I am not alone!!

I just migrated to an Intel G43 board with onboard x4500HD graphics (ECS G43T-M), plus I upgraded MP to 1.0.2 AND added another TV tuner card (AverMedia m780 plus ATI 650 Pro) and started getting this same problem. Both with live & recorded TV shows (recorded on the older system) and downloaded xvid videos & shows. I found I could fix the live TV playback by changing codecs (used the ATI codecs that came with the 650 pro) but I always seem to get the issue with some xvid's no matter which codecs I tried. However, I found that if I kept stopping and re-starting the show playback, it would play just fine in maybe 1 out of 4 or 5 tries. Weird!

I will try the "YV12" fix soon (I'm going to be out of town for the next couple of days), but it's interesting that the problem follows different decoders.

Thanks guys, will let the thread know what happens!

    WOW...

solving this problem REALLY was as simple as unchecking "YV12" next to "Planar YUV:" on the "Output" screen in ffdshow video decoder config.

i also had to stop the video file in MP and restart it for the change to take affect.

clicking "apply" in ffdshow video decoder config while the video was playing didn't solve the problem.

I had an mpeg1 .MPG file that had the same problem.

apparently, this hardware setup doesn't like RGB24, either, because unchecking that in ffdshow and restarting the video fixed it.
