I'm having problems getting serverblaster to work with my system. Everything seems to work except when I click the test button, the blaster flashes but it doesn't change the channel. The setup I have works fine in MCE 2005. I've tried all the different speeds to no avail. It's not a standard microsoft MCE remote but an HP MCE compatible remote. I'm using it with a PACE 501 STB from roger's cable in canada. Has any one else had similar problems or success with an HP remote?

Thanks,
Clint

    cwchapma,

I would recommend not trust blindly in the results of the Blaster.exe test button. It doesn't take in consideration (AFAIK) blaster speeds and doesn't use the blaster type options of serverblaster.

I would recommend going trough the learning process and then trying it out with the actual plug-in running on the server. Just change a channel and type a number in the channel number field. The number you put there is the number that the plug-in will try to blast.

It's also usefull since then serverblaster logs some messages in tv.log and then we can help a little bit more.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Are you the only person working on serverblaster? I would like to try and move learning application inside the serverblaster plugin. Does that seem like a good idea to you?

Thanks again. I'll let you know how it goes.

Turns out it was a problem with the positioning of my ir blaster. With MCE I can stick the IR blaster right on my STB. For some reason with MP, it has to be out in front of of my STB. I'm snooping the USB packets to see if there's something different between what MCE does and what MP does. I wonder if there's a power setting or something...

    Hi cwchapma,

Be sure to let us know what you find. I've been wanting to snoop the USB packets myself for some time, but I don't own MCE.

I'd be very interested to hear what you discover.

    Cheers,

I changed the packets in serverblaster that are supposed to set which blaster (1,2, or both) and the speed to what MCE was outputting and it made a significant improvement. Once again, I can stick the IR blaster right on my STB and it works great. I'll have to do some experimenting to see if I can figure any more of it out.

Could you please post your changes?

I have an MCE remote plugin of my own that could benefit from your discoveries.

    Thanks,

    cwchapma,

Have you changed the blaster learning or the serverblaster blasting procedures? Serverblaster has two packect sets, one for each kind of MCE blaster it supports. If you found a third, it would be nice to add to it.

I haven't figured out exactly what the packets should be to properly support the different speeds and blasters (1,2, or both). I will post my results when I have a better idea what the packets are for the different options.

Currently, I'm trying to move the learning part of serverblaster into the plugin while adding support for multiple blaster contollers. Hopefully, this streamlines the whole setup experience.

Let me know if this might conflict with anything you're working on.
