AW: Problems with dropping frames with EVR

I cannot see them but it is nicer to also have no dropped frames in evr.log and this happens when i use dshowhelper.dll SVN 24800 - so perhaps i should simply use this dshowhelper to solve my log problem :)

Had you the time to look into the .ts samples for ZDF / ARD HD provided by me and some other users - which are not playable with MP and MS-DTV Codec?

And how it is going to solve the issue that other people are seeing with that specific revision? Dropped frames... :) As I said fine tuning the EVR renderer looks like an impossible task without re-writing the whole scheduling logic. We can tweak those few parameters, but when they seem to work for someone it will suddenly have huge quality issues on other people.

    @OnkelChris,

After using #1 @ my atom system; dropped frames are gone.! great work. Going to test further also with #2

I'm glad to see, someone is testing my files. Hopefully there are some more people going to try these alternatives (tourettes? disaster123? belcom?)

    I need feedback... Please

    EDIT:
The file provided by disaster isn't working for me. Many dropped frames...

can try this tonight but i want to know some more information on which base are these dll's? Can you provide a patch file to see what you changed and so on.

    nyt:
    What did you test? LiveTV?

    disaster123:
I'm a bit afraid of posting a patch too early. Hope you can test tonight and give a little feedback. And hopefully dropped frames are gone for you too.

which SVN base do you use for your files? Perhaps send me the patch via PM. Thanks! I don't like to test think where i don't know what has changed.

tearing test bar must move smoothly across the screen (this can jitter / stutter when no dropped frames occur when the v-sync is not correct one. Happens only on 1:2 material).

    Hi tourettes,

would you be so kind to explain this a bit further?
I spent the whole weekend trying to improve the playback on my desktop PC where I run the latest SVN. The problem is that the playback on my setup is really smooth and I am very satisfied with it, but it does not stay that way. The time until the payback shows the stutters can range from some seconds to half an hour. And even then it is hard to tell what happened, as often the dropped frame counter does not increase at that point. All I can see is that the whole picture "jumps" a tiny bit, as if a frame actually has been left out, and since the tearing test bar and the performance graph do also jump, I thought the problem would be system wide and not MP-specific. That is why your statement caught my attention.

Until now I did not pay a lot of attention to that stutter since it is not a machine dedicated to running MP and many applications are installed and a lot is running in the background. But now I decided to (try to) find the cause of the stutters and got myself an additional hard drive where I installed a clean copy of Vista Business 64bit and MP. I hoped that a clean installation would eliminate the cause for the stutters, but it did not.
Therefore, I thought the problem is caused by the system itself, something in the combination of the components that does not work perfectly together. I came to this assumption because the stutter would be always the same, no matter which codec or which SVN version/dshowhelper I used.
Furthermore, the stutter would be only temporal, i.e. it may be present for some seconds/minutes and then disappear and come back again after some time. Well, I find it hard to describe the exact behavior, but it exists and I would be glad if it could be fixed.

So here are some additional questions:
Is the tearing test bar supposed to be running smoothly in every occasion (i.e. also when frames are dropped)?
Are there other applications that should run smoothly as long as the system is set up correctly? Until now I used DVBViewer to get a "second opinion", but it behaves similarly and also suffers from occasional stutter. But maybe it also does not use the EVR correctly (support is marked experimental).

Thank you all for putting so much effort into this subject as I think smooth and perfect playback of media files is the most important thing for a HTPC software like MP.
I wish I could contribute more and help with some coding. Unfortunately my programming skills in C# are close to zero. But if you ever happen to build some dedicated Hardware or maybe some FPGA accelerator for MP, I would be pleased to help ;)

    Best wishes
