Thanx for your help, but remember the problem is also when powering the computer off.
Not only when going into hibernation/standby.

Think you have a PSU problem if above is true, just not disconnecting itself on shutdown.

Do not remember you mentioning that bit :) otherwise would have said this straight away.

I can see that my phrasing in the first post is somewhat vague. But never the less my problem is also when powering off the PC - going into "Soft off" or "G2"

I would also guess that it is a PSU problem, but only problem is.. I have tried with another PSU and it does exactly the same thing (this PSU works in another PC in the house).

So I am looking to be convinced that it is the PSU, so I can get a new one soon (but do not like the idea of getting a PSU and it does not solve the problem)

I am more convinced that it is a MB problem ?

    Dim moment

Do the fans shutdown after about 10 minutes, as this could be a safety feature, specific to this motherboard.

I have not tried to wait that long, but I have tried something like five minutes. Later I will try to leave it running(but not running) :) for a while..

    I am puzzled

There's nothing in the manual about this as a feature, i know a lot of laptops do this to cool components down after shutdown.

Even googling does not bring up any answers.

Nope, I have now tried to wait more than one hour - still runs the fans..

what seems more plausible - MB or PSU replacement?

    http://www.formfactors.org/developer/specs/ATX12V_PSDG_2_2_public_br2.pdf

that the latest guidelines for power supplies design, there are a few updates, mainly efficiency\upped power ratings.

I honestly do not know regarding which is faulty, cannot find out much about this besides apple had this problem with some of there models, which a BIOS update repaired, may be worth checking that out, updating Bios that is, if ones available.
