I've posted this over at the PVR Scheduler forums, but thought I'd try here too.

I've started using pvr-scheduler recently and everything seems to be going fairly well except for one problem.

Here what happens:

1. I have a scheduled recording set up that appears in MP and PVR-Scheduler
2. The scheduled recording has started but I decide to finish it before it's scheduled end-time
3. I stop the recording using the MP interface (e.g. either go to "Schedule" or EPG and select the recording and and Choose "Don't Record" to end it)
4. MP screen freezes.

When I say "MP freezes" the audio is still going in the background and I can still hear the button "clicks" when I use the remote but the screen remains frozen on whatever screen was there and no buttons work. The only way to get out is to force a restart of the pc using the on/off button.

Worst of all is any recording that was going on at the time is deleted or so corrupted that it won't even play.

Has any one seen this before. I've noticed it with PVR-scheduler v1.5.4 (on MP 0.2.2.0) and v1.5.5 (on MP 0.2.2.0 + SVNs).

I have attached the MP logs and you can see right toward the end where the scheduled recording was cancelled. There's no indication of an error so I'm pretty sure the problem is with PVR-Scheduler.

Thanks
Rich

I doubt if this problem is caused by PVR Scheduler, as all that PVRS does is resume your PC and start MediaPortal prior to the scheduled recording. Once the recording is underway, PVRS is "out of the loop".

There was probably no error message in the MediaPortal.log file as MP was "hung" and thus not able to update the log file. Do you have debug mode enabled in MediaPortal Setup?

    hi taipan

thanks for the reply. I do not have the debug mode active in MP, and am not really familiar with this feature. I'll give it a try when I get home tonight.

the reason I thought it might have something to do with PVR-S is because I've done this series of steps (i.e. stopping a current recording) many times and it's only since I installed PVR-S that these lockups have occurred. I thought maybe I need to stop the recording in progress under the PVR_S innterface under My Plugins?

I'll try the debug and get back tonight.

    Cheers

it's only since I installed PVR-S that these lockups have occurred.

Actually, you might be quite right - it is possible (I am guessing here) that MediaPortal communicates with PVR Scheduler via the ECP2 plugin to notify PVRS that the recording has been stopped, and this is causing the hang ...

Can you also take a look at the PVRScheduler.log file to see what it has reported at the time you manually stopped the recording?

Tried following your guideline for stopping a recording.

Have 3 different svn's including todays, using PVRScheduler 1.5.5.

Have terminated recordings early, using STOP RECORD button.

    Unable to duplicate.

My PVRS-Scheduler settings are at default (might be worth uninstalling and deleting the PVRScheduler folder).

Did not want to Post, without running this through 3 times per svn, allowed recordings to run to within 5 minutes of there scheduled time.

Edit. You might also want to know that stopped recordings, are being deleted in PVRS within a couple of seconds of early finish recordings for myself.

Maybe Taipan can test and confirm.

    hi guys,

    thanks for the replies.

Taipan I've checked the PVR-S logs, and there is not mention of an error. I have included the relevant section of the log below and to my untrained eye it looks fine

@PD I gues this is always therefear with a problem like this... no one else can replicate it!!! I did consider that I may have enable some setting in PVR that is causing this behaviour, since no one else seems to be having this problem. That being said however, there was a reply to this same post over at the PVR-S forums from BillG who has the same problem as me.

    See here: http://www.pvr-scheduler.de/Forums/viewtopic/t=630.html

When you tested, was it from a scheduled recorded or one started manually? Also, if you have multiple tuners can you try to replicate it with both tuners recording at the same time, and then try and stop one of the scheduled records.... this is when it generally happens to me since I'm trying to free up a tuner so that I can then change channels.

I'm going to try and replicate it this morning with debug on in MP and will post back.

    Cheers

These were recordings set using MP's EPG in advance, so each had to come out of standby to record, i'm sure one at least was a dual tuner recording.

Anyway will do another one now, recording 2 channels in parallel, from standby and stop one partway through.

Set Prisonbreak to record 2200-2300 via EPG

    BBC1 News 2200-2230 via EPG

Went into standby via pvrscheduler plugin 2154, awakes 2158

Terminate recording BBC News at 2225, change to every mux, unfortunately for you no problems encountered.

I know with my crap hauppauge drivers if i change 1 setting in the PVRS config ie tick the start MP on resume box (you would think this would be normal, as pvrs starts MP anyway) then MP WILL NOT find my TVCards.

Have tried the variables so often have a great big list written down of failed recordings. As i know it works flawlessly on its default, now i leave well alone.

Hope you and BillG (wondered what he did in his spare time M$) resolve your issues.

    Good hunting.

    Hi guys,

I will take care of that issue! Currently I don't know if it is caused by the PVR Scheduler or MP.
I will try to reproduce it and fix it in the next release.

    Hi STSC,

Thanks for reading this. If you need any information as to the particulars of the issue then pls let me know.

    Cheers
    Rich

BTW. I did some testing yesterday and as PD found , this error doesn't occur everytime the sequence of steps (listed above) is done... sometimes everything works as it should. So, there must be some other factor involved that is contributing... I'll keep trying to find out what that is.
