The EPG in RC3 is painfully slow - almost to the point of being unusable - anyone else had this issue? (BTW, I use MySQL instead of MS SQL Express)

(I've tried it with Blue3 and Blue2 Wide : same result)

    Hi,
Not slow here so attach all logs collected with "MP log collector" to your post & is this using single/multi seat?

    Regards

OK - I ran MP through the diagnostic tool and have attached the logs.

Basically, I just went into MYTV and accessed the guide.
I used the remote to move down to Film4, initially quick but when I got to the last line in the display, it took approx 4 secs to scroll down each new line.
Then I moved right and turned off a recording. Slightly quicker but still seemed to take about 2 secs per right scroll when going off the page.

Update: Forgot to say - this PC is the TV Server and is also the main client. However, I do have other clients on my network running older versions of MP Client. It obviously isn't a problem with the TV server because the EPG works fine on remote clients

i can not confirm slow EPG in multiseat nor in singleseat.

~50 channels with 14days EPG displayed when i enter TV guide using M$ SQL Express.

I tried switching to my usual skin (Monochrome) but it doesn't make any difference.

Maybe the issue is only present when you use MySQL instead of MS SQl Express - can anyone else using MySQL confirm whether their EPG is working OK ?

I checked the CPU usage on the server during EPG scrolling using both the local client and a remote one running RC2.

Quite high peaks in RC3 ~ 28% usage. The 4 peaks to the right of the screenshot each represent a single line scroll.
Negligible load on the server when accessing the EPG from a remote client - and this was for rapid vertical scrolling several times through the full channel list.

    Additional information:

I have now updated a remote client from RC2 to RC3 and the extremely slow EPG is there as well.

I uninstalled RC3 from the remote client and reinstalled RC2 TV client. EPG scrolling speed is restored.

I should mention at this point that when I installed RC3 Client+Server on the main PC, I did a full uninstall of RC1, but I didn't uninstall MySQL - could this be a cause of the problem?

This problem appears related to an issue experienced by RC2 SVN users.

Summary of my results so far:-

The remote client running raw RC2 MediaPortal/TV Client works fine
The remote client running RC2 SVN20268 MediaPortal and raw RC2 TV Client works fine

The remote client running RC2 with SVN20268 (MP + TV Client) is very slow
The remote client running RC3 MediaPortal/TV Client is very slow

The remote client running RC3 MediaPortal and RC2 SVN19778 TV Client works fine (!)
The remote client running RC3 MediaPortal and RC2 SVN19876 TV Client works fine (!)
The remote client running RC3 MediaPortal and RC2 SVN20143 TV Client is very slow

Yes. Our own, tweaked config file for MySQL has been introduced with RC2. The typical installation defaults of MySQL is e.g. using way too little sorting cache as it is optimized for "background" usage.

The queries itself are handtweaked to the peak - gathering program info takes around 5 ms here. The rest is ineffective GUI code.

Nevertheless MSSQL can use available RAM much more aggressive and responds to most queries directly from its cache. So while some actions (Mini-EPG, EPG import) might be faster with MySQL, M$ SQL Server will be faster for TVGuide of huge groups and everywhere where "gentle.NET" is used (e.g. channel assignment in SetupTV.exe).

P.S. On the same hardware SQL Server 2008's query response time is even 25% faster.
