So I was using RC3 with minimal issues and decided to upgrade to RC4 which I am always hesitant at doing since it nearly always ends in frustrations on every upgrade. I un-installed everything and re-installed RC4 but I kept getting the error "unable to start timeshift" all the time when changing channels. I have seen others getting this also.

So I un-installed RC4 and reinstalled RC3 and setup again. I now have issues with RC3 that cause the HTPC to crash with a Blue Screen Of Death when I change channels from a HD to a Digital channel.

I use both the MPA and MPV codecs because any other combination causes the same BSOD.

I don't have a log but I did use RC3 for months without issue and have no idea why this would happen. I was told in the past when I had the BSOD issue that it's hardware/driver related which is a fair enough call but why does this happen with MP only? Why not with any other software such as the original software or GBPVR?

Not all software is using the APIs in the same sequence (or even at the same APIs). So different software can trigger different bugs in drivers. But as a thumb rule its impossible for software itself to cause BSOD, you always need a kerne side component for that (and a bug in it). MediaPortal doesn't itself have any kernel side components.

Could you give more details on the BSOD message?
