Hi I am new to using MP but I am deeply impressed, I have installed 1.3 Alpha and everything is working fine except when I want to record TV.

If I select a channel to record, the recording seems to start fine, I then change channel and the new channel displays for about 30 seconds and then just stops, the only way out is to close mediaportal.

It is a multi seat setup, but this happens even if no other machines are online to the TV server.

The card has two feeds and there is no problem if two clients are watching different channels.

As a side question, WMC has a really good feature when it comes to multiple clients and or channels, if a client switches to a channel for which there is no available card, i.e. because one channel is being watched on another client and one is being recorded then it asks which one to sacrifice to fufill the switching users request, is there a way of getting MP o do this as I find it very frustrating just to be told "No free card available"

    Thanks in advance

    Paul

    Hi Paul, welcome to mp.

The first thing you describe needs to be checked further, please fill out the config info (and set it to show) in your user control panel so that we know what kind of HW you use, and second reproduce the issue while running Debug mode (see my footer for details).

The feature you describe for "killing" another user is not implemented (on purpose). Since MP is prepared to be used my multiple people it would not be fair if someone else could kill your show (along with the timeshift buffer). Also recordings are considered of higher priority as watching (usually). If you have more than one tuner, you can set which card(s) should be used for recording and which for viewing giving you some control. But this reduces flexability. The main (killer) feature of MP over WMC in this area is that MP records the complete transponder at the same time, so watching / recording programs on the same transponder only uses one tuner.

Hi, I now have the full story,
There are no other active machines drawing TV feed

    Step 1: Display Guide
    Step 2: Record Current Channel
Step 3: Change to another channel via guide
Dialog displayed saying No Free Cars available (there are two DVB-S tuners)
Step 4: In guide select recorded channel and it displays the feed
Step 5: In guide, change to another channel
Feed changes to selected channel but only displays for around 30 seconds and then locks up.

I have uploaded two log files, the 08_08 one being from this monrnings test.

On the face of it it would seem that MP is getting confused about which feeds are available.

On the second point, I understand your reply, but let me post a scenario where its not ideal.

I have four computers with MP on it, the main one with the TV server, another in my home office, another in the master bedroom and yet another on a laptop.
There are only two of us in the house, but we move about alot, you may have MP running in the the office and be recording another show, you then go to the master bedroom forgetting to close out of MP in the office, you then cant watch TV without going back down to the office. A simple interface that would allow you to select what to do would be really handy.

So I'm looking at the recording of "Horrible Histories" on "BBC Two". Is this correct?
From what I see in the logs, I think that you're experiencing this issue:
    http://mantis.team-mediaportal.com/view.php?id=2824

The recording fails on the first tuner (tuner 4), so TV Server comes back and tries the tuner that is being used and that is what interrupts your timeshifting. You should get a notice that this is happening, but you don't because of the bug. As it happens, the recording fails on the second tuner too. TV Server keeps trying to record, alternating between the tuners as it tries frantically to start the recording. This could cause second or third interruptions...

    You're using MP 1.3a yes?
Is it possible to consider reducing the priority of one of the users (maybe the "office" user) so that the "bedroom" user can interrupt the stream from that user?
This can be managed in the "user priorities" section of TV Server configuration.

Hi mm, thanks for the reply, but do the logs show why the recording failed?

I did notice the user priorities page in MP1.3 Config, but there was no help page available, so I was unsure of how to use it, essentially I use the same user name on every machine, so not sure how it would cope with that

    thanks

Paul[DOUBLEPOST=1344426178][/DOUBLEPOST]Sorry, yes it was horrible histories that was being recorded

I see from the link that that bug has been outstanding for quite a while, I can try it later in non full screen mode to see if a dialog does come up.

    Hello again

...but do the logs show why the recording failed?
Apparently no audio/video was found in the stream. Further than that I am struggling to see what the problem is.

I did notice the user priorities page in MP1.3 Config, but there was no help page available, so I was unsure of how to use it, essentially I use the same user name on every machine, so not sure how it would cope with that
Yes, this is a new feature in MP 1.3a - documentation to-be-done.
AIUI the name of the PC is used to differentiate between clients, so the Windows account username doesn't have any bearing.

I've found the problem, the recording drietory didnt exist sorry for being stupid, but I thought I changed it and pressed the apply to all tuners button, obviously not!, fixed that now, but still getting errors, I will study the new logs tomorrow.
