Hello.

I'm trying to get a setup with two DVB-C cards (FloppyDTVs) to work, but something seems to be going wrong.

Take this scenario:
I'm watching TV on channel A. I decide to record channel A (press record button on my MCE remote and select record current programme). I can still watch channel A while it is being recorded. Works fine.

I then decide to switch to another channel ("channel B") while channel A is being recorded. As far as I understand it, I should be able to record channel A with one DVB-C card and watch channel B with the other card - simultaneously.
But when I switch to channel B nothing happens, until after a couple of seconds I get a message saying that timeshifting could not be started. Same if I try another channel. Channel A keeps getting recorded (as far as I can tell).

Even if I stop the channel A recording, I can't start live TV anymore ("unknown error"), not even a TVService restart fixes it, only a reboot does fix it in the end. What gives?

I can't even watch TV in DVBViewer, which normally works, but in this case it says the DVB device is not ready/available (again, killing/restarting the TV service doesn't help either, only rebooting the machine does).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

PS: the logs are from after I did the scenario I described above (i.e. recording, switching to another channel, stopping the recording and restarting MediaPortal to "record" the logs).

Have you linked the channels between the two cards? I think it's called "channel grouping"** in TVServer setup. I haven't got my MP machine handy so sorry if the terminology is wrong!

Say you have channels A, B and C, all available on both cards. In TVServer setup you link them together so that MP knows they're the same channels. Then if you record channel A then try to watch channel B, it will know that channel B is available on the second card. If you don't link them it will probably assume it has to use channel B on the first card, and report it as unavailable (it doesn't know that channel B on the second card is actually the same channel), and you would have to specifically select the "channel B" that is on the second card for it to work (may be in a different channel group).

    Hope that makes sense.

Ignore me if you've already done that.

    Rob

** EDIT: It's called TV Combinations, under TV Channels

Are you using the correct firewire driver (legacy)?

I actually used TV Channels -> TV Mapping in the TV Server Configuration and mapped all the available channels (from the 1st card) to the 2nd card. I think it should work with both cards because when I'm disabling one of the two cards, live TV still works (I've disabled the 1st and enabled the 2nd and vice versa).

What I forgot to mention: I'm plugging the firewire cable of the 2nd card into the 1st card. This should work, right?

Yes but ONLY if you have the legacy driver. So: Which firewire driver do you have?

    Combinations is something completely different.

Combinations is for combining two channels which are on different sources. For instance NLD 1 form DVB-S and NLD 1 from DVB-C. Combining them makes MP see it as 1 channel. So it can then choose whether to tune to DVB-S or DVB-C when you tune the channel.

Sorry, but I have no idea. Where can I check that and what if I don't have the legacy driver?

    Thanks!

Ah, OK. My two tuners are one DVB-S and one DVB-T, so that would make sense. I thought you had to do the same for any two tuners even if they were the same type. Sorry for posting misinformation
