DXDiag doesn't report any problems. It only seems to happen when the guide (both full and the Mini guide) fade in- the graphics is an ATI Radeon X1600 (Saphire brand if I remember).

I'm going to experiement anyway- maybe my findings/repairs will help others with similar problems (or at least with slower systems).
