Hi all

I have been getting regular stuttering ever since I installed MP and it's TV Server, but I assumed it to be the low spec of my HTPC.

I have now upgraded to 4gb RAM, a 320gb SATA-II hard disk, a dual core processor a gigabit network card, moved timeshift to a RAM Disk (using SuperSpeed which uses the memory that Win7 32bit can't address). I see around the forums that there are plenty of people running lower spec than me that don't have issues, so I am not sure what I can do next.

I am willing to wipe and install XP SP3 if it helps..but that is the last thing I can think of.

Every 4-6 minutes, I get around 30 seconds of stuttering...doesn't matter if I am on HD or SD channels. My TV has a built in Satellite tuner and, with the cable plugged directly to the TV, never stutters...so it can't be a signal issue.

I have attached the TV Server Log folder, hopefully kind soul can shed some light on it for me...the missus keeps trying to get me to just use the TV directly...but I really want to use MP for recording etc.

Thanks

The logs you attached are only for TV server - need the MP logs as well....

Can you clean up your log directories and try again live TV? Some of logs are overwritten if you change channel or watch something other. Any way you wrote that you're using LAV Video Decoder for MPEG2, but in log is CyberLink Video Decoder (PDVD11). Are you sure of your settings?

Really? I will have to double check then...I have been messing around so much, it's possible I didn't set it back.

I will clarify my settings and post back.

What do you mean by clean up? Delete all current logs?

    Thanks

Re: Regular Stuttering on live TV

    Hi

Ok, the codec info I had taken from the Video codec section, not the TV codec section, the codec setup for the TV section is:

    MPEG-2: CyberLink Video Decoder (PDVD11)
    H.264: ffdshow DXVA
    MPEG/AC3: Lav Audio
    LATM AAC: DivX AAC
    DD+: Lav Audio
    Audio Renderer: Default DirectSound Device

I cleaned up the logs folders and watched an SD channel for around an hour and then at 10:55 switched to a HD channel

I saw stuttering at 10:06, 10:08 and 10:14 and then work got in the way unfortunately, so I am not sure of the time of other stutters. After switching to the HD channel, stutters at 11:02, 11:08 and 11:14 before work got in the way again.

    I hope that's enough information

    Thanks

If you compare the evr.log with the MP-TVseries.log, the blocks of 'Scheduling sample from the past' messages in evr.log happen just after the 'File Watcher: Performing File Scan' messages in MP-TVSeries log e.g.

    Code:
00000006 - 20/01/2012 10:14:44 - File Watcher: Performing File Scan on Import Paths for changes
00000006 - 20/01/2012 10:20:44 - File Watcher: Performing File Scan on Import Paths for changes
00000006 - 20/01/2012 10:26:44 - File Watcher: Performing File Scan on Import Paths for changes
00000006 - 20/01/2012 10:32:45 - File Watcher: Performing File Scan on Import Paths for changes
00000006 - 20/01/2012 10:38:46 - File Watcher: Performing File Scan on Import Paths for changes
00000006 - 20/01/2012 10:44:46 - File Watcher: Performing File Scan on Import Paths for changes
00000006 - 20/01/2012 10:50:47 - File Watcher: Performing File Scan on Import Paths for changes
00000006 - 20/01/2012 10:56:47 - File Watcher: Performing File Scan on Import Paths for changes
00000006 - 20/01/2012 11:02:47 - File Watcher: Performing File Scan on Import Paths for changes
00000006 - 20/01/2012 11:08:48 - File Watcher: Performing File Scan on Import Paths for changes
00000006 - 20/01/2012 11:14:49 - File Watcher: Performing File Scan on Import Paths for changes
00000006 - 20/01/2012 11:20:50 - File Watcher: Performing File Scan on Import Paths for changes
00000006 - 20/01/2012 11:26:50 - File Watcher: Performing File Scan on Import Paths for changes
00000006 - 20/01/2012 11:32:51 - File Watcher: Performing File Scan on Import Paths for changes

Try disabling the MP-TVSeries plugin - it looks like the CPU/disk activity it's creating when it does the file scans are affecting playback - it's doing them every 6 minutes.....

I don't see any obvious problem, so I have few other questions:
    • do you use some antivirus or firewall solution? If yes, did you try turn off solution(s)?
    • did you try DPC Latency Checker? Maybe this tool can signalize that you have some driver problem.
