What are your experiences for RAM requirements when running a single seat setup.

I have a machine with 1 GB of RAM which ran smoothly with MP 0.2.3 without TVServer, but after changing to TVServer3 I have real problems to get the whole thing work smoothly. Esp. as soon as showing the EPG screen for all channels tv playback is jerky and the whole MP gui becomes stuttering and the hardisk is under heavy load. Then I have to reboot the machine to get things ok again. simply restarting MP does not solve the problem. I also tried restricting memory usage of MSSQL but that did not help. Taskmanager shows a swapfile size of 1 GB then.

Is 1 GB not enough for this setup or are there any known memory leaking problems ?

This could be a problem with your setup, you don't say which OS you use but if it is XP then your OS requirements for RAM will increase over 1GB and if it is VISTA then you realy ned more than 2GB to make that OS smooth.

Software based firewalls and virus checkers are sytem hogs, so check these.

I use the best OS MS ever made for my HTPC, w2ksp4; OK future support is looking bleak but it is fast, compact and memory efficient.

If you look at my server specs, I can be recording multiple streams and timeshifting to multiple network clients while still running MP on the server (this is seven year old tech) which is smooth and responsive (i monitor the GUI FPS which never dip below the FILM FPS and the GUI itself easily achieves 60-100FPS depending on the screen)

Memory sits at around 500-700K so my 1GB limit for the 440BX chipset is easily contained.

I'm running XP.
Seems that I have to spend one additional GB to get things work with TVServer3.

When I remeber what we did with 32KB of RAM about 20 years ago when I started with sw development I sometimes ask myself what it is all good for. (For the youngsters here "KB" is not a typo it is a measure for memory commonly used in the good ols days)
