Now that ripping CDs no longer crashes Mediaportal with a special release of 1.39, it seems that Mediaportal still tries to access freedb.freedb.org to retrieve artist and track names. This site was retired in 2020 and no longer works. Can we access another online database to replicate what freedb used to?

Like what, for example? Well, something that would let you retrieve the information from a CD using a mold.

Further research uncovered MPTagThat which rips and recovers info for the tracks so I'm going to use that instead

That's one way to do it. But if you find a reliable data source, we can try adding it to MP.

Well, there's MusicBrainz and Gnudb.org

As far as I recall, they can't obtain data from a CD mold—only from tectonic data—and they usually return not just one precise result, but a list of possible ones.
