Hi there,

I'm planning my first HTPC build and I'd like to use some spare parts that I have scattered around the house. In particular, I'd like to use a s939 AMD processor and some DDR-400 RAM. Are there any mATX mobos which will take these components and also have on-board video, on-board sound and PCI-E sockets?

Any help would be most greatfully received!

Many thanks,
Jack

After much hunting, it turns out that the MSI K8NGM2-FID motherboard has been discontinued (and no one is selling one on eBay). Humph!

Are there any other mobos which support s939 AMD processors, take DDR SDRAM (as opposed to DDR2) and have s-video- and audio-outputs?

If not then I'm going to have to buy a new CPU and RAM.

Many thanks,
Jack

I use an MSI RS480M2-IL, with ATI xPress 200 integrated, very cheap motherboard but works very well with MP.

Maybe not the best for HD content but I never tried that type of video.

    Hi guys,

Thanks loads for the very swift replies! Please correct me if I'm wrong but am I right in thinking that the Biostar GeForce6100-M9 doesn't have composite or s-video outputs and the MSI RS480M2-IL doesn't have PCI-Express?

    Many thanks,
    Jack

No the M9 doesn't have tv out, but it does have everything else that you asked for. You could always use an additional video card for that but the on board video wouldn't be needed then.

Why S939 btw? AM2 boards are even cheaper and you get the Energy Efficent Editions of the Athlon64 X2 for those.

    MSI RS480M2-IL has 1x PCI-e 16x and 3x PCI ports.

But I agree with rtv, you should better look for an AM2 motherboard, because it's now really cheap and the processors too
