SAF v4.00 ''stable'' (StandAlone Filters) - DXVA ready (H.264 and VC-1). (33 Viewers)

Hi all,

I'm having a strange issue when watching shows or movies using SAF. What's happing appears to be like a frame drop of some sort as a scrolling scene in a show will result in a jump or skip. Sound doesn't seem to be affected at all. I too had searched around for the perfect solution with codecs and finally came across this and it's perfect, except for the skipping. I have a GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2H mobo with 1G of ram (maybe need more?) and a 4600+ proc. I stream everything over the network which is 1Gb in my house.

I had installed Mediaportal and just installed the divx bundle prior to installing SAF so maybe there is some left over registry snippets from that package even though it's uninstalled? I also have quicktime installed for apple trailers.

I'm just running both stable versions of Mediaportal and SAF (1.01 and 3.40 I believe).

I was going to try re-installing everything on another HD and not install anything but the two and see if this works. Thanks for any assistance that can be offered.

I'm having the exact same problem. It disappears if i execute your 'Turn off DXVA' reg file. And i also figured out that if i make the file mkv, the problem disappears.

I think it is playing fine in MPC-HC, but i must double-check when i got home.

I'm using the following config;
Mediaportal 1.0 SVN 21813
SAF 3.45
HD3200 Integrated
Catalyst 8.5

I don't use Vista on the production MP machine ReClock on Vista should work now since feb 2009. Changelog mentions Vista.

- Subtitle: ooops, I've probably missed this setting, I will check ... If checked, DXVA is always deactivated or only when using subtitles ?
- I will try to disable DXVA to see if it works.
- I will try to make again the mkv file by myself
- For subtitle with DXVA, I will probably wait until this is part of MediaPortal (1.0.2 ?)

I've tested with 24Hz (24pfs), vertical sync activated, but I have a HUGE tearing effect. Any explanation ?

If you facing tearing problem:
-on XP - make sure vsync is ON
-on VISTA - make sure AERO and vsync is ON

DXVA is ON when:
-video have no subtitles
-you have DXVA hardware
-video is DXVA compatible
-on XP use VMR9 (not EVR!)
-on VISTA EVR

Why wait if you can use it now with less bugs as in 1.0.0? And installs over existing build and keeps settings too.

I tried MP-HC last night and the same thing happens as it does in MP with all shows. For additional information I used PowerDVD 9 to get the .ax file which seems to work as CPU is below 5% for most shows. I'm also using Catalyst 9.3 drivers. I could revert to 8.5 if it would work better? I have also allocated 256MB ram to video mem.

This isn't just one movie that it's happening to either, I can see a bit of jitter/skipping on 720p shows as well.

Hi, turned out the files were coded abit dodgy.. I converted them from to h264 to h264 ie the same format, by using a converter -(very slow to do ) and now it works great.
Which is really good as i didnt want to mess with MP and SAF settings as its working so well at the moment.

I'll found some files it doesnt like..They play but so jerky it is unwatchable

Im using: saf 3.3 with CLVsd.ax MP 1.0
the files work ok with media player classic(on different pc) and have these specs:
type : KLCP.AVI
Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 560x464 25.00fps 539Kbps [Video 0]
Audio: MPEG Audio Layer 3 48000Hz stereo 160Kbps [Audio 1]
I thought Id ask here before I started screwing with settings at random. Any ideas?

First - try it in latest version of MPC-HC player on your HTPC with MP - it is OK?

Chceck CPU usage - if it is more then 90%, you hit jackpot.

The only MKV files that I have trouble playing are the ones that don't support DXVA. Is there a simple way to re-encode all of my MKV's (batch encode or similar), to DXVA compliant files without losing quality? I don't want to convert to AVI.

xvid4psp will do this, it also has a batch encode, but have not tested that, but can confirm using the settings in picture below gives good dxva results.

Hi.

I have SAF perfectly installed. Now nearly all my HD videos work perfectly even with DXVA. Actually, video is perfect in all of them, as fas as i know. But problems come with the sound. Have some videos on wich sounds doesnt fit with image. And difference is not a bit. Starts slowly untill it goes to quite some seconds of delay from image to sound. It really bothers me since its a tv serie wich i really want to see. If it may help, heres the mediainfo of the files:

As i said, SAF is full working, even with PowerDVD 9 codec. The system is completely up to date, since i just assembled it some days ago, and all drivers are downloaded from its webpages.

Would like to know whats exactly the problem, and if it could be possible to solve it. Either with some codecs or rebuilding the MKVs and changing the audio.
