I had lot of troubles with Cyberlink DVD navigator - so no recomendation from me.
I always used DVD navigator from version 7 of Cyberlink powerDVD. Worked always perfectly, even together with powerDVD 8 Mpeg2 codec. With the latest SAF I have to use microsoft navigator, but a lot of DVD's wont work here anymore.

    Lost in DirectSoundSpace

    Hello,

I'm completely lost in DirectSoundSpace. Could somebody please give me a hint?

My target: AC3/DTS Passthrough via HDMI. I currently cannot use a SPDIF-cable because my (stupid) MoBo does not have a coaxial SPDIF out. (Some months ago my old MoBo had such a connection and I was happy in digital surround. Sadly it broke.)

What works: 'normal' 2-channel sound via HDMI. This is my stable baseline in my productive system (see specs).

    What I tried:
    - Install latest MP svn
    - Install latest DirectX (Aug2009)
    - Install latest SAF 4.0Beta20test2 unlocked, with passthrough enabled
    - Tried with different ATI HDMI Audio versions (9.4, 9.8, 9.10)
This results in no sound at all.

Playing around a bit with GraphStudio I could create manually a Sound graph (File-Haali-ffdshow). This I could connect to my HD audio rear output (as I understand via the VIA HD Audio device which is probably the VIA1708S onboard chip connected to the analog jacks and the optical SPDIF out) , but not to my ATI HD audio out (which is probably the ATI function driver ATI791A driving the onboard HD3200 and thus the HDMI connection).

Until now I understood that if I want to pipe the AC3/DTS bitstream into my HDMI cable, I have to select the ATI HD audio device as output. Is this right?

However, it seems to be impossible to connect this device with any output transporting a bitstream. As described above, I cannot connect it manually, and MP/SAF can't connect it neither - it leaves the ffdshow and the ATI HD audio device unconnected.

I tried to find some hints in MP's logiles, but I can't see any anomalies (warnings/errors) when the audio graph is built. Graphstudio does not give any error message - it just refuses to connect the arrow.

I'm lost now. Can anyone give me some idea how to find the reason for this behaviour?

    best regards

are you sure your mobo/onboard gfx supports >2 channel audio over HDMI? (some don't)
Also you can get an adaptor that either goes optical -> coaxial or the other way round (i forget)

I was having problems playing videos with AAC MP4C audio & found out why. Since I have SAF installed, I thought I should post here.
I was only getting the front left & right channels playing and after some sleuthing, I found that AAC was disabled in ffdshow. This was a new install of SAF & since I had uninstalled ffdshow first, it appears that it was disabled as default.

AAC is disabled, becouse AAC support in FFDShow is only experimental - for example, it doesnot work for live TV. Monogram AAC decoder is used instead. You can configure Monogram decoder directly in MP configuration.

    Hello kiwijunglist,

Yes, I'm sure that the HW supports it. Some weeks ago I ran another try and I had a short time of success. Means that I could receive DTS and DD5.1 on my AVR via the HDMI cable. The bad (and strange) thing is that this configuration stopped working after one reboot of the PC and I found no way to reactivate it.

And yes, I also have this SPDIF converter option in mind as last resource. ASUS also offers an SPDIF slot bracket for my MoBo which would be the ideal solution, but it is unavailable since months and ASUS shows no interest in resolving it . I'm even having in mind to solder a simple interface in a DIY manner... However before giving up, I'd like to figure out how to solve it on the SW-way.

kind regards from the opposite side of the world...

i have got a problem since i instelled the latest beta20 test file.at least one movie (1080p mkv) displays a green blocky screen. most movies (also mkv) play correct

what is different about this movie that it does not play (how can i check vc1) and why did it play correct in older versions before i installed this version

i tried going back to older saf version when but this did not help (earlier it was playing correct with older saf)
    i have windows 7
    catalyst 9.10
    ati 4550

anyone have a idea how to solve this ?
