SAF + powerdvd mpeg2 codec at Movies/DVD section
SAF + Elecard Mpeg2 decoder at tv section

The first post says: The best experience for Live TV (not H.246) i got by using Elecard Mpeg2 decoder.
But no explanation is given on how to actually use the Elecard Mpeg2 decoder. How do I install and use it together with SAF?

My experience is that CyberLink PowerDVD is way better than Elecad on LiveTV. Besides, Elecard isn't a free codec, so you'll have to pay for it, at least that's the message it gave me in ProgDVB, and it also puts a watermark in your corner if you use the trailversion of it...

Anyway. PDVD is probably the best codec for LiveTV, most people would agree with me i think, but go ahead and try them both out for yourself ;)

Why Elecard for live tv? Becouse it alow you to use DXVA + gama correction to make gray black - this is great feature for analog TV.
BTW - no watermark at all for 21days :)

I might be going over old ground for many here but I'm a bit stuck - I finally have everything configured well enough to use - all my movies in any format I can find play first time & my TV channels work - all except BBC HD - I just get a blank screen (it looks like the machine hangs and I end up having to crash out).

I've configured SAF as per instructions and have the same codecs configured on both video and TV. All other channels work fine now but BBC HD just grinds everything to a halt.

Really? i thought PDVD supported DXVA by now...

Anyway, is DXVA more important than picture quality to you? I can see the gray/black problem where it's present, but DXVA? I think 95% of the users have no problem decoding a SD MPEG-2 video stream with their cpu. To be quite honest, i don't feel petty for my cpu doing all the work if he gives me the better picture...

I for one do care about DXVA regardless of if my CPU can handle it or not. One concern for most people is noise. The lower the CPU runs, the lower the heat generated from it, the less fan noise you will have from your HTPC. Another concern is if you are doing things like Comskip, re-encoding on the same machine. I wouldn't want to tasks to slow down my HTPC more than it has to and I don't want it to take twice the amount of time because I was watching mpeg2 tv at the same time. Also, some purist just want things to work as nicely as they can :)

I bet you hit this MP ts reader bug: 0002069: TsReader is not working properly with some H264 codecs - MediaPortal Bugtracker

Well, if you're re-encoding at the same time, then you don't mind the cpu fan (obviously). Most people don't re-encode meanwhile, and decoding MPEG-2 streams isn't a big load for a average cpu, barely mentionable. I would say get a new cpu or cpu fan rather than getting a lower quality picture. Elecard really sux on panoramic scrolling and horizontally scrolling text for instance, and it's worse in general.

I think hoborg should write a few lines about these two options in his first post rather than say that Elecard is the better solution. I think most people would choose PDVD instead if they knew...

Hi.... i have a question about mov files trailer with audio 3/2 1 . If i use graphedit with MPA codec or MPC-MPA or AAC monogram and directsound device and i play the trailer i don't get on my a/v receiver (connected by spdif) the signal in dolby digital , but simply stereo and not well divided between the speaker (it seems that the rear sound is played in the front and in the rear speaker both togheter).
But if i install AC3 filter and i connect the MPA (MPC-MPA) with Ac3 filter and then directsound device , i get the dolby signal on my A/V receiver and the sound is well played . So , my question is:
How i can i get the dolby sound from a MOV files using only the MPA decoder or AAC monogram???
Of course the codecs are setted on spdif.
Finally my problem is that i don't have the dolby digital sound in mediaportal using mpa , mpc aac codec when i play a mov files.
In case a dvd movie i have the dolby sound well played also in mediaportal

    thanks

I have ATI Hd4850 and the way I have DD working is by selected ATI HDMI Output. Using Default Waveout or DirectSound does not work for me.
