I have just upgrade my GFX to a HD4550 from an on-board HD3200, i've been having problems getting MP to start, keeps crashing out on the loading windows plug ins.

After some GPU advice from kiwijunglist I've just purchased a HD5750 for my HTPC. I was originally going to get a HD4670 but with no 5xxx integrated chipset in the near future the HD5750 will give me VA DXVA for MPEG2, and DTS-HD/TrueHD via HDMI.

So hopefully, after I get off work, I'll be able to tell Hoborg that my HTPC is finally able to be used properly and I can even test HD audio passthrough

EDIT: Hopefully my 380W PSU can handle this card and my 3 HDD's lol.

I still personally recommend HD4670 for HTPC. Have no knowledge about HD5750 (apart from it does HD audio over HDMI and apparently the Win7 drivers are a lot better than the Vista/XP ones, so you may want to go with Win7). Also i think most of the HD5750 have an external power connector, so make sure your PSU supplies the power connector cable. Also, i imagine you have to have a fairly good sound system to notice the difference between Full bitrate DTS and DTS-HD.

Ran into a little issue when trying DTS-MA audio. It played fine in pass through mode and my receiver correctly identified the stream.
The problem was once I played that stream MP will not play any video with any other audio type. It is like it has locked itself into this mode only.
I can only reset it by closing MP and restarting. With Dolby Tru-HD or AC3 this is not an issue. It's probably an issue in FFdshow, but if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.
I am so close to my perfect HTPC I can taste it.

I'm already on Windows 7, and all the reviews I've read indicate that the HD5xxx series draw less power than the HD4xxx series especially when idle.

My PSU has a PCI-E 6 pin connector so I'm good there. I have a Pioneer 919AH which supports DTS-HD MA, TrueHD etc

No, it is not working:

You can try re-enable MS DMO decoder (START-SAF-MS DMO - enable), it should be able to decode all VC-1 videos. But remember this will broke some WMV compatibility - like Online Videos game trailes.

BTW, you can drag and drop your file in to graphstudio and see what failed (audio or video).

NOTE to ALL:
If you are using SAF400beta23 *unlocked* - you can now use QT alternative 3.10 instead of 2.92. Compatibility was already fixed, just remember to reinstall *unlocked* SAF (there is new version of "QuickTime DirectShow Source" filter.

it is better to mux subtitles inside MKV, here you can specify all languages, prefered, etc tracks - no problem in MKV merge.

how can I set a subtitle as forced by default??

it is better to mux subtitles inside MKV, here you can specify all languages, prefered, etc tracks - no problem in MKV merge.

For example you have 3 subtitles tracks inside MKV, two EN and one DE. Tag them inside MKV merge by correct language tag and tag prefered EN one as default track.

1080p mkv's etc. are playing perfectly, but those low-quality clips only refesh the picture like every 5 seconds (not watchable).
However, I noticed if I move around the MPC HC-window while playback is running, I can see more frames the faster I move that window around.

Any solution?
