I see that if I have windows 7 use the Microsoft audio/video codec for everything. Am I reading this correctly? I dont want to set it up wrong. :)

Not true. For example AC3 won't work with MS audio decoder.

In which case it wont work? I only know that it wont work with the MP Audio Renderer (because of licensing restrictions). If used with default directshow renderer it should work just fine. At least it does work here (both decoding and SPDIF).

That is new info for me.
It should not work outside MS software.

It is probably considering the DS renderer as MS software - but in any case it works with that renderer in MP.

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

Hoborg, I updated to SAF 5rc2 a few days ago and noticed that my LFE stopped working. I'm running 8 channel analog from computer to receiver. I get LFE in windows when I run the speaker check, but don't get it in Media Portal. In ffdshow audio I'm doing what I've always done, enabled LFE crossover at 80hz and set the mixer to 8 channel and checked the LFE box. I made sure ffdshow audio was selected in Media portal config. I also tested multiple mkv files just to be sure, same problem.

Also, as a test I reinstalled SAF5 from March 4th and it's working perfect, so something has changed in FFDSHOW audio I'm guessing.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

I also posted over on the doom9 forums. Hopefully they can find the problem in the correct build.

Hoborg, it turns out that when I modify the ffdshow settings after installing SAF 5 that the settings don't take affect. If I run MP in a window, then access ffdshow audio from the taskbar while a movie is playing, modifying those settings "sticks". But when I run ffdshow audio config from the SAF shortcut created at install, it doesn't work.

so the problem wasn't with ffdshow after all, just the shortcut issue was introduced between RC1 and RC2 of SAF 5. It's still happening in SAF5 final which I just tested.

    Thanks.

Shortcut issue? If you open FFDshow setting thrue Start menu, it wont open?
Or you mean setting are not saved after your modification?
Remember - there are two audio profiles (DTS + standart) - are you sure you modify the correct one?

I went through the start menu and opened the audio link and made the changes and they saved, but it didn't change anything. How do I change ffdshow audio to change analog instead of dts settings?

    Thanks!

Select correct profile or do it durning media playback (run MePo in window, start and pause video and double click on FFDshow icon).

Re: SAF v5.00 *final* (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

Hi - not sure if this has been reported (I searched but didn't see it - apologies if I've missed it)

With SAF v5.00 and ffdshow set as the audio codec it seems like for mkv files with multiple audio tracks it *always* plays the first audio track - regardless of which track is set as the "default track". This seems to be a new issue because back in SAF v4.00 (and ffdshow set as audio codec) it correctly uses the default information in the mkv header.

I went back as far as saf500svn100512 and the issues was still present (can find the point that it was introduced.).

Is this a setting somewhere in ffdshow? (if so, I can't find it) Are there logs that would be useful in diagnosing the issue? Is there anything I can do to help??
