I spent some time playing with the codecs last night and was able to determine that there is something in the ffdshow video codec that is causing the problem. I can use the MPC video codec without any issues. I removed all the codecs I could find from my HTPC (which is running XP mediaportal 1.1.3) so I had a clean slate to test with. I am now setup to use the MPC codec (which loads with SAF v6.0) for DVDs and MPG2 video, ffdshow for Bluray and LAVF for all audio codecs. I tried multiple videos, including the one that I was having issues with and was not able to freeze the system.
hoborg if you would like to do some testing I am open to it. It may take a few days to do any testing for my family wants to watch movies and not watch me play with the HTPC.
All i want is the DVD that ausing such problem - i newer seen this before.
The problem of Gabest MPEG-2 decoder is corupted image between tracks and no HW deinterlacing.
BTW, what GPU do you have? Maybe it doesnot like NV12 colorpaces and cause system to hang. If you use DVD11 decoder from ulnlocked saf to play DVD - still the same problem?
hoborg, I am using the ATI HD 5570 GPU. If the GPU did not like the NV12 colorspace wouldn't this happen on other DVDs/videos while using ffdshow? I do not have the unlocked saf so I am unable to try the DVD11 decoder. As I mentioned earlier I am willing to try anything and thanks for your help.

Hmm, are you sure you have latest SAF6 installed? I have no problem to play your sample.

Yea, its filename is "saf600_110531.exe". I guess filmerit broke something while fixing some errors (without the fixes I can't use MePo), because I can't even reinstall without killing that part of the registry (the number of filters goes down to 50 after reinstalling and no media can be played anymore).

I unlocked SAF and tried PDVD11 and the movie works, but I do not have the cursor to select my options on the menu. So I tried the cyberlink video/sp decoder and everything seems to be working. Is this codec a good one to use? I am including the graph to show you my ouputs.

After some daily usage, it seems PDVD11 has "broken" SDTV decoding... You can see what we see in this screenshot:

here no problem with pvdv11 and sd tv to be honest no problem at all with pdvd11 and many kind and contents, hdtv, sdtv, vc-1i, vc-1p h264 etc also works great in onlinevideos
