Re: SAF v6.00 (based on LAVF)

Sorry if its been asked before.. will you add CUVID support to your install? I can install it separately?

Hi.
No. There is a plan to integrate CUVID into LAV video decoder. CUVID is useless to 2/3 users.
And yes, yo can install it separately.

Hi Hoborg,

I have a thought. It might be bogus or undo-able or um-whishfull. Here it is anyway :)

Upon installing SAF, is it possible to have a couple of questions extra in there. Like: "Do you use an ATI graphics card or NVidia".
Make the installer as such, that it only downloads the appropriate files/codecs. This way you can reduce download size and traffic for all setups.
Is there difference in codecs used for nvidia / ati? Like if I would have a nvidia card, I would certenly NOT use this that and that... and vice versa.

Just trying to think along :)

Re: SAF v6.00 (based on LAVF)

    Hi there,

is there a (big) advantage to use LAVF audio codec instead of AC3filter (or AC3file) ?

I use the ac3filter to pass through DTS and DD5.1 signals (bitstream output) to my AV receiver (also Live-TV).
i´m just asking, cause i need to setup my codecs (Audio and Video) cause i bought a tVcard.
So I´m thinking of installing the SAF6.

    For info:
I´m not using the newer audio formats like HD Master (mya AVR can´t decode these) etc.

Would be great if someone could help me!

AC3 filter doesnot support HD audio, it will only produce silence on that audio tracks. And AC3 filter is toooo outdated :)

Thx for the quick response, Hoborg!

so if i use a digital coax cable there is no reason to change the filter? (HD audio is just for passing the audio signal over hdmi, right? )

I read the first 30 sites of the thread, before i became tired :)

But what i read was, that the LAVF audio filter is far from stable, or am i wrong?
Is the LAVF Splitter also buggy, or can i use him instead of the haali splitter?

LAV splitter and audio decoder is "rock" stable, at last i dont get any crash since i start using it.
There can be some features missing, but it is only question of time when they will be added.

    You can check LAVF site.

personally im using the one that comes with MP(although disabled) called mpadecfilter.ax
u need to register it by double clicking it or run in cmd : regsvr32 mpadecfilter.ax (shows up as mpc/mpa audio decoder in mp settings) .. i find it really great for HD audio(it will send thru the core of DTS-HD MA and TrueHD audio streams) if you dont have a DTS HD MA / TrueHD amp

i havnt tried the LAV audio decoder in a while i think it can do it also

Both are based on FFmpeg, so they have the same "core". LAV is little faster, it is modern, but it missing any postprocessing and right now it doesnot support DVD decoding. But it have great feature if Nev. will continue on this project (we all hope he will).
And yes, LAV splitter support FLV container, and LAV video decoder should be able to decode all video formats that is supported by FLV, except VP7 - this format is not supported by FFmpeg.
