Re: AW: SAF v6 (based on LAVF)

In ffdshow Video, both the MPEG-2 profiles have horizontal Zoom set to 5. Can you explain the reason for this please?
That is SW overscan :)

I never touch any DXVA setting in DXVA checker, keep the default.

DXVA is disabled for SD material becouse of hi quality subtitles. Image need to be resized first to HD, then add subtitles.

OK, but why are we doing SW Overscan :)

I'll leave DXVA checker alone then.

I understand what you're saying about DXVA and SD and not wanting to resize the subtitles. But I don't see any resize settings in ffdshow DXVA so where's that being done?

SW overscan is good to remove garbage around the picture. Maybe your broadcaster didnt have it here, but here it is. Even on DVDs.
It is good for DVD, becouse for live TV is better to use PDVD11 decoder.

It is not possible to use resize with DXVA decoder, becouse resize is postprocessing.

Well I get a bit of garbage top and bottom with LiveTV and PDVD11 decoder, but I just set MP's crop settings to 6 for top and bottom.

I always thought PDVD11 was better than ffdshow for DVD?

Well I haven't got any postprocessing enabled in MP, so shouldn't ffdshow DXVA just be set with DXVA enabled for both SD and HD?

You can enable it, it is up to you. But there is no much reason to use DXVA for SD, CPU usage are realy low in both cases.

SAF is standalone product, not directly developed for MediaPortal. There are some players with no subtitles support and resize SD to HD is must have to have good looking subtitles.

OK, that makes sense :)

What about enabling VC-1 DXVA for HD and is there any downside from disabling timestamp corrections in LAV Splitter to make this work?

I prefer to make SAF able to decode both VC-1i and VC-1p in SW mode instead of make it working only with VC-1p in DXVA mode.

OK, so enabling DXVA for VC1 stops ffdshow working with VC-1i?

Thanks, sounds like PDVD is the way to go then.
