Scanning analog TV channels does not save the Frequency within the database. I just tested this out on regular MP and it does in fact save the channels. This is very important for a couple of things. Sometimes the country is off and it selects the wrong frequency for that channel and you get static. It looks like the new Zap2it plugin uses frequencies to combine the channels. Without this, it will fail.

The log below shows the scanning of the channels and shows the frequencies but the screenshot below shows they are not saved in the database.

    Can someone please confirm?

I can confirm this as an issue - What's strange is that MP config keeps the frequencies, it's the tv server that doesn't. So if you go to watch tv, you can scan through the channels fine it seems, but this issue is more in relation to the zap2it plugin and similar epg issues. So right now my epg is empty until the issue gets resolved :-(

    Hi,
If you use "antenna" instead of "cable", wouldn't the freq be used instead of channel then?

    Regards

I will check that out today and get back with you.

After doing the test... it does not come up with the frequencies in the database. Also it wants to add all channels from 1 to 158 if they are valid or not. After looking at the my channels I see that it found 1-13 and then went to 44 to 158.... very strange. Below is the scan log.

Because I don't have a real antenna to test with, it might be up to some guys with OTA HD cards to test that out. Because I use cable, I am going to assume it should be set up as cable in the settings. Everything is pretty much working accept adding the frequencies to the database. This is needed for the zap2it plug-in. If people knew that us NA users could use the zap2it plug-in, a lot more people would be using the new TV engine... and that means more testers/users. :)

My test machine has OTA Analog and although it doesn't save the frequencies, it works fine.

My understanding is that it uses the default frequency for that channel, whatever that is. But it does work fine. I have PAL-M here and the tuner is a Hauppauge PVR125.

Thanks for testing Joboehl. There is a couple of problems with not saving the frequencies. The first problem, which I think we had in regular MP is that sometimes providers to not use the default frequencies. Over in the states, it seems like providers can use what ever they want. Else where, they have pretty strict rules on this type of stuff. So, the default frequencies might work.. but they might not.

Also, people like MP to be easy to use and they do not like working with xmltv and batch files. If people knew they could use the zap2it plug-in and all they had to do is put in there username and password, a lot more people would us the product. That’s the main reason why I want the frequencies added to the database. I really don't know what our goal is with the new TV server... but people are going to look at the Old TV engine and then ask.... why does it not work the same way as the old one... and then get frustrated.

Yes this a very important bug for North American/US and Canada users! When I used XMLtv, the channel names weren't sorted correctly and it was a big hassle, but with the zap2it plugin, things were perfect (and very simple)

This has been added to the Mantis on Frodo's request (so he would not forget). You can view the mantis post HERE. With Frodo's skills I am going to assume this can be fixed in 15 minutes.... I am hoping he will take a look at it this weekend :)

ASiDiE, you mention in the mantis post that Patrick has found a way around this, could you link us up to that version of zap2it?
