Hi all,

Using MP1.2.1 with Avalon beta skin. Using Avermedia PCI-e Twinstar tuner - BDA and IR (remote) drivers.

I'm having two issues, firstly I scheduled this recording last night. Check this morning and it wasn't recorded. The schedule (I set it to record that show always on that channel) is still there in MP and also in TV server config. The key part of the TV log is:

The tswriter log for that day ceases at 22:38 so I haven't posted it.

As you can see it was doing something - I'm just unsure what as I'm not cluey with MP.

The next logs (I haven't edited them) ironically coincides with a BSOD (at 06:43) that reports the Avermedia TV tuner driver as the cause. I'm not sure whether it's just the MP TV server starting up again or whether it's all of a sudden decided to do something which has caused the BSOD.

Any help would be great, I really appreciate the forum - without you guys I would still be stuck with no EPG...

    Hi randomman

This issue is caused by a deadlock in TsWriter, in my opinion caused by the EPG grabber.

So does that mean I should disable the EPG grabbing while recording?

    Thanks for the help.

AW: Schedule recording - not recorded

I only have "Grab EPG while idle" checked. So no problems with recording or watching TV.

    Not possible.

The EPG format on one or more of randomman's channels might be different to your channels, and that would be enough to explain the difference in behaviour.

randomman: I know that you thought that you had just fixed a problem by turning on EPG grabbing but I don't think it is going to be as simple as that. Deadlocks can be *incredibly* hard to fix. The difficulty in this case is that TsWriter is processing a lot of data in real time. Any debug that you add may affect/change the problem or produce copious amounts of log output that are difficult if not impossible to wade through.

I think there are a few things we can do.

First, I think we need to prove that this problem is caused by the EPG grabber. Allow it to fill up your guide, but then disable it for a week (if possible) and see if the stability issues persist. Also, please tell me if you have "enable CRC check" (DVB EPG section) ticked. If it is currently ticked then after the first test I'd recommend that you untick it and see if that makes any difference. If that doesn't help or CRC checking is already off then the third step should be to disable grabbing for all channels except one. If you find that you still have problems after that then we try a different channel. Basically the goal would be to find if there is a particular channel or channels that have EPG in a format that somehow triggers these problems.

Make sense? Please feel free to ask questions if what I've said isn't clear. :)
