    Hi all,

When I set a program to record the program in the EPG goes red as it should.

the EPG is set to 'always update existing entries' as some channels regularly change what is going to be shown.

But channels are updating their start times every day usually by 1 min ie the news tomorrow starts at 6pm so i set to record then tomorrow it says in the EPG 5.59pm and therefore does not show up red in the EPG. It does still record the shows but is frustrating as I'm not sure what I have set to record (and dont want to have to regularly check the scheduled recordings), this means I often record the same show twice.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    James

    Hi James

I'm not sure that I have an answer for you. I'm guessing that the issue is caused by the EPG times being updated but the schedule times not being updated. I'm guessing that the issue goes away if you untick "always update existing entries"?

    Hi MM,

Thats correct if i untick it doesnt happen, which I would do but some of the channels here regularly change what they are going to view.

Is there a way to have the schedule times update as well?

    Cheers

    Hi again

I have another question for you: what happens if the new EPG info for the programme that you've scheduled for recording is exactly the same as the old info - does the EPG get marked in red after the update?

Is there a way to have the schedule times update as well?
I thought about that and spent an hour or so looking at the code. There are some things I think you should consider...

Let's extend the example that you gave in the first post. Say that you schedule a recording of programme x on channel y from 6pm to 7pm. If the EPG is updated and the start time of programme x changes from 6pm to 5:59pm, the EPG currently wouldn't be marked in red. Currently the schedule still exists behind the scenes, so the slot from 6pm to 7pm is recorded. I question whether it is right to mark a programme in red when the schedule doesn't include the entire programme. In our example the schedule would technically have missed the first minute of the programme. That is a marginal case - your pre-record setting probably would have picked up the minute. However, what happens if the programme had shifted by 5 minutes? 10 minutes?
Okay, the logical suggestion would be to update the recording schedule as you said, but how is MP meant to know how to update the schedule if the programme moves to the following evening. It is not so clear that the programme is the same one that was previously scheduled. It could be a series. You could build up a complicated set of logic like checking the name, duration, similarities in the description... to figure this stuff out. But actually I believe that is what ForTheRecord already does...

Thank you very much for you reply, The time changes are usually on 1 min but sometimes 2 however I get your point.

Even if the info is identical (except for the start time) it still does not stay red.

I had not looked at For the Record but it may well help me out, thanks.

    Cheers

I have installed for the record and the shows remain red even when the time changes, thanks for the info.
i would prefer to still use the TV section as it is originally as I really liked it so if a fix is possible it would be appreciated. (Im only wanting the recordings that change by a minute or two too still be recognised, not worried if the shows change airing days)

    Cheers

FYI my hard drive died so reinstalled MP (without FTR) and all working fine, even though the time changes the EPG still stays red.

    Thanks
