Now when I attempt to use the TV Guide I get a screen that asks me for the host name or the IP address of the TV Service. It says that it's Win7 which I believe is the Hauppage TV card that's in this computer. It also gives me the options "Change" or "Back". If I pick change I get a virtual keyboard that shows Win7 in the dialog box. If I then click "Done" I go right back to the screen with the change and back options. I'm either doing something wrong or misunderstanding something terribly but I don't know what.

Unfortunately, I did that (restart the TV Service)and now I've done so again. The same thing has happened.

Try opening MediaPortal configuration and changing the TV server host name to the IP the TV server is on or if it shows the IP change it to the name of the computer the TV server is on. I've had the same problem several times and this always fixed it.

Geoff,
I finally found some time to do some googling on this whole thing with the importer and came across an interesting post in SchedulesDirect's forum so I figured I would post it here to help anyone else:

Ok, got it figured out. Google is your friend.

I spent some time googling on the road since I didn't have access to the system at home. The error definition is:

Your Web server thinks that the HTTP data stream sent by the client (e.g. your Web browser or our CheckUpDown robot) contains a 'Expect' request which can not be satisfied. The Expect request is fairly generic i.e. loosely defined in the HTTP protocol. It can specify more than one expectation, each of which may be interpreted differently by different Web servers.

One online reference indicated that this can be caused by a web proxy or using certain ad block software. My home router is a Smoothwall linux box that's heavily modded and guess what - I have an ad blocking mod installed on it with a web proxy. Once I turned it off, it started working.

Hope this helps someone else.

I also run a smoothwall and my web proxy was running to help and addon I had running to cache and save windows updates so that they are only downloaded from the actual internet only once. Shut it off and everything is good now! Just thought I would share the info.

Regards and good day!

The TV Server is currently shown with a host name the matches the name of the computer. I don't know what is meant by change it to the IP.

Hey, thanks a lot Valdi!

These excellent detailled instructions helped me to solve a similar issues. In my case, 2 channels were named "unknown XX" after the scans. These 2 channels consequently couldn't link to anything in SD. So in case, you have unknown channels this approach works well ans is much more simple than what it looked like!

thanks again! My first experience with this community is just great!

Long life to the free TV

Hey Tony, I know how you feel, so close yet so far away. You read and read and pick up bits from here and there and try to put it all together.

Hope the more expanded how-to below helps you out.

The program you need (or what I used) is called MySQL Workbench.

Found here: http://www.mysql.com/downloads/workbench/
Download the following: mysql-workbench-gpl-5.2.38-win32.msi
It's the first program listed, install and then do a restart just for kicks.
I'm not sure, but I would turn off TV Server after the reboot just to be sure that the database is closed for editing.
After you have rebooted and turned off the TV Server, Open MySQL Workbench from the short-cut that was created. You will then brought to the following screen:

Within the MySQL Workbench screen your will see on the lower left hand area of window "Edit Table Data" Click on that command and you will be shown the following screen:

View attachment 100809

Now, the "Stored Connection" Combo Box will be blank when the screen opens, so the first thing you will do is access the already existing
"Local Instance MySQL" by selecting it in the topmost combo box. Next it's password time, you will 1) Click on "Store in Vault" to access the password prompt text box. 2) Enter the password - "MediaPortal" it is case specific and will only have to be entered once. Next time you want to enter the database your password has been "Stored in the Vault"

Click Next to get to the following screen

When you installed MediaPortal a database was created named "mptvdb"

1) When you first open the 'Table Selection Window seen above, under the first combo box "Schema:" you will see "information schema" change it to "mptvdb"

2) Change the "Table:" Combo Box to "channel"

3) Click Finish

Next is the edit database screen seen below:

Here's the time consuming part: The red arrow is pointing to a column called: "externalID" Here is where the SchedulesDirect plugin gets it information on which channel to pull for your channel line up in your epg. In my case, I'm using Schedules Direct for Set top Box Cable and Over the Air HD. I ensure my schedules direct account has the aapropriate line-up selected from the SchedulesDirect website. as seen below:

View attachment 100812

Click on edit and you will be taken to your line-up where you can get the first 5 numbers of the channel id needed. See Below:

View attachment 100813

If you hover your mouse over the particulair channel your interested in the channel id will appear, write that number down.
You can also click on "Report in the previous image to get a columned listing with all the channel ids.

Now that you have the channel id you need, go back to the MySQL Workbench "channel" table that you have previously opened and edit the channel thats giving you problems.
11182.30.schedulesdirect.org
The externalId format is as follows: XXXXXX.00.schedulesdirect.org
XXXXX = channelID from Schedulesdirect Website
00 = channel number from Schedulesdirect Website

After you have entered the correct channel ID for all the channels that are incorrect. Click on "Apply" In the lower right-hand side of the edit tables screen and close up MySQL Workbench.

open up your TV Server Configuration and access your schedules direct plugin configuration screen and click on the check box that will force update of your channel guide on next TV Server restart.

Restart the service under Manual Control and give it 10 min or so and bingo, Bob's your Uncle, or Shirley's your Aunt. Whatever it works.

Remember, Open Source needs Community Support - Pay It Forward.

Let me know if it worked or if you have any other questions or changes we can make to this post, HAPPY to help. Amazing program.

    Now it is my turn.

SD has been working flawlessly on my XP 32bit HTPC for several years. Even working with MP 1.3 Beta.

I just installed win7 home premium 64bit and have MP 1.3 Beta running, TV Server finds and plays all my ATSC channels through my 2 HDHRs. SD is configured exactly as it was before. User ID and Password are correct. but guess what ... ;) ... no guide. I suspected it might be a MS firewall issue, so I temporarily turned that off.... no guide.

I had, for a fleeting moment, a guide, when I first installed everything (under win7) ... then I made some "adjustments" that I don't remember, and it was then all gone. I may have to take a day (or two) to uninstall and install MP again to give me a fresh starting point.

    "sigh"
