It gets to the Program Info just before I exit.

I do have a local DNS but I am using the IP as you stated so I don't know why it would look it up in DNS. Here are the results of the test.

    nslookup 192.168.1.151
    Server: home-server.dewit.local
    Address: 192.168.1.100

    *** home-server.dewit.local can't find 192.168.1.151: Non-existent domain

    ping 192.168.1.151

Pinging 192.168.1.151 with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from 192.168.1.151: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
    Reply from 192.168.1.151: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
    Reply from 192.168.1.151: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
    Reply from 192.168.1.151: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

    Ping statistics for 192.168.1.151:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

TV works fine. Viewing the Guide works fine. Playing recordings work fine.

If it is a DNS issue why is it only related to RC3 and there is no problem with 1.0.2.

I have a feeling there may have been a change in connecting to the TV Server for 1.1 to make it cope with failures that may have introduced this?

Either way could you try taking the DNS server out of the equation on the client and see if you still get the same error?

What is specified for the server in gentle.config - name or IP address? It may be that it still needs to look up a name because the IP address is not used in all cases.

Indeed, no idea where or why but this is a reverse DNS lookup so is actually trying to get a name for the IP address. (so AIUI hosts file will not help ?)

As normal TV, browsing recording, guide etc are all working I do not think this is a gentle issue. I will attempt to have a look at the code later as this does appear to be solely related to ProgramInfo. That said I don't think this is particularly an MP issue and bypassing the DNS server from client is likely to solve the issue

What confused me the most is it was trying to do a reverse DNS lookup on a 194.135.66.0 network but both TV and DNS servers are on 192.168.1.0 network. Can you confirm what network your clients are running on? (try ipconfig /all from command prompt)

Also another oddity is that you have set TV server to connect to 192.168.1.151 but in tv server logs in post#1 you have
    Code:
    2010-05-23 05:01:33.540557 [TVService(5)]: Controller: local ip address:192.168.1.150
have you changed TVServer IP since first logs or is there something very odd with your setup???

192.168.1.150 is my live TVServer, I also have a test box that is 192.168.1.151. Because of the amount of testing and uninstalling etc I switched to the test box. I haven't changed the IP address on either of the TVServers only pointed the client to a different TV Server. I have also down complete uninstall and reinstalls between changes as well. Please note that the same fault happens regardless of which TVServer I point to.

    I have attached three logs:
    1. Static IP address with DNS set to the router which is not a DNS Server (causing me to have no DNS and no access to the outside world). - Problem still there
    2. Static IP address with DNS set my ISPs external DNS Servers (outside access by no possible strange internal DNS setup) - Problem still there
    3. Because I have a copy of VMWare Workstation installed on this PC there two additional NICs appearing on the box, so I disbaled them leaving only the real NIC - Problem still there.

Here is my ipconfig /all for normal setup.

    C:\Users\Kevin>ipconfig /all

I've just deleted all my recording schedules and tested again: response is now instant, as is setting new recordings.

Reimported 190 scheduled timers and its back to taking 45sec. What's most bizarre is this is actually longer than it takes running the conflict resolution/tuner assignment that usually brings my MP to its knees.

I can confirm that. I have made no changes to client from the last logs. I have gone to the TVServer and deleted all the Series Schedules and gone back to client and almost instant. Logs attached.

I was thinking that maybe the problem is related to me importing my settings for the TVServer which included the Series Schedules. So with the setup without any schedules I started to add some series recordings through the client instead of importing. Every new series schedule I added, increased the time it took to get to the Program Info by about 2 seconds. What was a 1 second delay in opening the page with nothing scheduled became 30 seconds and would of kept going.

could you try a couple of things?

1 - Set TVserver address on client to FQN of TV Server instead of IP (with schedules setup that seem to be slowing this down)
2 - Could you also remove IP6 from the adaptor

do you have any idea where the 194 network address came from??

Also just to confirm when schedules are there you get the issue by
    • going to EPG on client
    • scrolling to a program in the future and selecting it
    • click advanced record
and then you get the delay or is the delay as soon as you select a program from within the guide? Also do these programs already have schedules or does it make no difference whether you select a program which is down to record already or not?

Edit: can you also confirm how many schedules we are talking about here and how much EPG data do you have?
