It would be really cool if MP could take advantage of using the serial port to change channels when support for cable boxes comes along. IR Blasters suck.
They do not reliably change the channel on cable boxes. When using the IR blaster with my TiVo, I missed more shows. Once I switched over to the serial port, no problems. The channel gets where is needs to be every time. With my Media Center, same problem. Channel doesn't always change.
I concur with this request. Channel changes via serial control never fail. There are two sets of serial control protocols for DirecTV receivers. Resources the devs may be interested in:
