Series start slow (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

i'm new to mediaportal and so far I like it.
I also installed tv-series plugin but I have a problem.
My series are stored on another computer.
(this computer isn't always on)

question 1: in import tab: should I check removable or not because sometimes the other pc os off

The import was successful but when I click on a serie (in mediaportal)
mediaportal hangs for 1min or so
(it seems he is looking for the files of that serie (and maybe the length, size, ...?))

question 2: can you disable media info lookup?

But now my biggest problem:
when I click on an episode to start it mediaportal hangs for 3-5 min and than it starts
Could it be that he downloads the whole episode first?

question 3: what can I do to start an episode immediatly? (it starts immediatly in windows explorer)

I just wanted to let you know I changed a property in mediaportal: show tumbnails for every episode to false.
Now the episodes seem to start within 30sec
But what is strange: afther 30 sec I get an error:

please insert disk

I press ok and the episode starts playing
(maybe this is because I checked removable in the config?)

You should not set to 'Removable' for remote shares, you should instead enable the option 'Keep reference to files that are no longer available' in General Settings. This will not delete references in your databases if the files can not be found or accessed e.g. remote share is offline.

It should not of caused a hang when entering a series though, possibly when trying to play an episode perhaps.

question 2: can you disable media info lookup?

Not from settings, but you can delete the MediaInfo.dll from the MediaPortal binary directory (where MediaPortal.exe lives), typically:

C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal

This might have other unseen side affects on MediaPortal esp. when starting to playback a video or from other plugins that depend on it.

Possibly in a future version we may add support to disable this.

Not likely, its most like an issue with MediaInfo. What version of the DLL do you have in your MediaPortal binary directory, v0.7.27 is the latest and might fix your problem (or you can try remove/rename the file to rule it out)

I think we may have covered this above, you can attach debug logs when trying to start playback...it can really be many things such as mediainfo, video/audio codecs....

30secs is still shocking....debug logs might tell us something.

I disabled download episode tumbnails and now a episode starts almost instantly
(except first time but this seems because of a scan in the beginning but when I let it complete it works.)

v0.7.27 didnt fix my problem of slow starts with my-tvseries or moving pictures

Hi,

i also had a problem starting mytvseries (100% cpu usage) with the mediainfo.dll 0.7.20 -included in mediaportal- and with the 0.7.27. What fixed it for me was using mediainfo.dll 0.7.26.
Maybe you wanna give this one a try?

I disabled download episode tumbnails and now a episode starts almost instantly
(except first time but this seems because of a scan in the beginning but when I let it complete it works.)

I set up MediaPortal a few weeks back and was getting the exact same problem of the first time it is launched, the first episode I tried to play would hang for a while and then play. Mine just seemed to sort itself out after a week and now they all play instantly.. Didn't change anything at all! Maybe its trying to cache stuff in the background and just needs a while to sort?
