ok, so, the tuner needs to stay on 3 because thats what the settop box is outputing on by default. Just to make sure my current setup is understood i have:

coax from the wall going into my settop box
coax from the settop box going to the tuner card
hdmi from the computer to the tv.

Forgot to answer the question about the card. yes, its the card that came with the computer from HP.

shamus252 I'm not sure about the clear-QAM support either. semi irelevent with the STB decoding everything. I do have a full cable package including HBO so i'm sure a decent amount of it is encrypted anyway :) as for the populating, does the schedules direct plugin populate the channels including tuning information? i was able to get all my channels listed by manually putting in a few then exporting it and writing a powershell script to loop through a list of channels and write out the xml with some values replaced, but it didnt bring in the tuning information. i'm guessing i didnt populate everything correctly. Then i had to go through and set it all up from there anyway.

rekenaar Unfortunately while i have rca out on the settop box, i have svideo in on the card. i guess i could look into an adapter. it looks like the card takes a svideo and a male phono for audio.

Is this the only way to make tvserver leave the channel alone? bypass it :)

Not 100% sure, but from my understanding it needs to be like that.

You can use SQL statements and queries, using MYSQL Command Line Client or GUI like Navicat/SQLyog/HeidiSQL to do fast changes to the tuningdetail. I dont have a tunercard, I have a capture card. Im probably wrong, I don't think you can leave your STB on a one channel and expect to change a channel with receiving a broadcast without the STB channel changing.

    Hi mystraven

The problem is that the channel field is used by the blaster to set the channel on the STB, but it is also used to specify the frequency that the tuner should tune to (where the frequency associated with the channel number depends on what country you live in). So you are setting different channel numbers in order to have the blaster make the STB tune the right channel, but that is also affecting the frequency that the PC card tuner is tuned to. To try to decouple that, try to specify the actual frequency that the PC card should tune to in the frequency field (same frequency for all channels) *as well as* the channel number that the IR blaster would use in the channel field (different for each channel). I'm not guaranteeing that would work, but it is probably the best chance you've got. If that doesn't work then I think you'll need to invest in a composite to s-video converter. The converter shouldn't be very expensive...

    Hi again

I have just checked and it works for me. I have an analog tuner that receives TVNZ channel TV One at NZ [cable] channel 7. The associated frequency is 55.25 MHz. I changed the channel number from 7 -> 1 and frequency from 0 -> 55.25 and tuning still worked. Note that I'm using XP SP3. This trick relies on writing registry entries to overwrite the default local frequency associated with the channel number. If it doesn't work with W7/Vista then it would be considered a bug in my opinion.

    :)

Ahh, the information on the registery entries explains the statement about a reboot possibly being required. I did mess around with it again, and it didnt seem to be working, but i just now rebooted and that seemed to do the trick, other then IRServer not starting up by itself for some reason and making me really confused, lol

    Thanks!!

now if only there was a bulk edit option..
