I use the "EPG Background Audio" for EPG grabbing - it is listed in Radio channels - as someone peviously posted, this is for the Sky EPG and will supply all the same channels as Freesat.

I too have struggled in the past, but it just seems to work now - I have basically done as jobyrne30 stated, and used the two installers for the Sky EPG

I reinstalled MP yesterday (along with clean install of Win 7) and my program guide is slowly being populated - I have previously done the Manual thing, but as I was going to bed, I left the TV PC running and it just did it anyway. I wanted to see if it would populate the database without being told to do so manually, and it did.

I have even got programme data for Dava ja vu which is a first since I built this TV PC 9 months ago!

Thanks to all on this thread who have advised me

The setup I described should work 100% - Things to check

    (1) After re-installing MP did you install the EPG mod/patch as directed in post 1100 - https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/640641-post1100.html.

(2)When you ticked the boxes and settings as I described press did you press "OK" , if you didn't hit the "OK" button and closed the configuration menu by selecting the "X" in the top right corner the setting will not be saved.

I use both the installers and have noticed that I am now unable to get DVD's to play in MP - they play fine in Windows Mediaplayer.

Can someone else check this, as I don't know if it is my system, the Sky EPG installers or my lack of knowledge on Windows 7

    Thanks!

More likely a codec issue than an issue with the EPG updated file, nothing that affects DVD playback is touched with the EPG patch. If your issue is you get sound but black screen on certain DVD's I've had the same issue on windows XP.

It was solved by using FFdshow tryouts codec's that came in the SAF codec pack version 4 - https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...dalone-filters-dxva-ready-h-264-vc-1-a-44614/ . This may not work with Windows7, the SAF 5 experimental codecs pack might work with WIN7 - https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...xperimental-based-ffdshow-dxva-decoder-77591/ .

It may be best to ask the questions on the SAF threads and describe your problem with a little more detail.

    Thanks for the pointer jobyrne.

I don't get anything at all. When I insrt a DVD, MP comes up with the dialog box "inserted, do you want to play it", I click yes and bugger all happens. I get no response from the "Play Disc" button on the homepage either. I have tried all sorts of different codecs too, but MP just doesn't respond to a DVD. WMP does, and does it all automatically to when asked, so I have ruled out a DVD player problem.

I thought I would ask on here first, as I didn't want to get the "your version of MP is for testing only and thus not supported" response.

I don't watch that many DVD's so it isn't really a problem and I can just use WMP to do it instead - I just lose the remote control functionality though, and I would have liked MP to do "the lot" really.

Hello porky996t, if you have windows 7 you don't need external codecs to play dvd, you just have to select Microsoft Video Decoder in DVD codec configuration. You told you tried many different codec, this could be the problem. If you have installed codec packs or have installed\uninstalled many codecs you could have messed up things and the only solution is to rebuild your system from a clean install.
In my system I have windows 7, MP 1.1, SAF 5.0. unlocked and everything plays fine.
I use Microsoft Video Decoder for DVD, Cyberlink fot TV and ffdshow for Video.

    Hope it can help.

Thanks for the info Peval, and I can confirm that my set up is the same as yours. I have only SAF 5.0 installed (as well as the Win 7 codecs ).

Under MP the DVD just doesn't play at all - the disc doesn't even spin up. MP knows that a disc is installed, as it asks if I want to play the disc, but then fails to open up the DVD navigator.

I have no doubt I'll get it working eventually.
