    Hi Mortstar,
Yes I was thinking about taking this approach as well, it seems to make a lot of sense... Do you use the "All channels" group at all? If not how do you tell MP to use whatever group you have created as the one to display the epg for in the TV screens (and I assume use for the list of channels in the channel chooser). I've never been able to get my head around the relationship between the groups and what is displayed!

    Thanks again...

    Andy

In MediaPortal config->Television->TV Client section there's a tickbox that says something like "Hide 'All Channels' Group".

You can setup as many groups as you want (I only have one called 'Freesat' - so that is the only one available). If you have more than one group, you can use the context menu in the TV Guide to change the group you are viewing.

I'll give this a shot as it was me that mentioned it for the +1's. will this work for MP 1.0 I see you mention SVN only?

an entirely unrelated point which I need to ask you:

I've a had a number of recordings which have been corrupt in a variety of strange and similar-ish ways
    - play back is fine, but midway through the program, you get a few seconds of an entirely different program. not even something that was on at the same time on a different channel. it has sometimes been something recorded at another time though.
    - play back is fine, but the end of the program is replaced by something from another on the same channel. I had an example where a recording (which was done unattended) of university challenge (8pm to 8.30pm on BBC2) had the last 5 minutes replaced by the chunk of masterchef (which was on BBC2 8.30 to 9pm) that was on air when I brought the box out of standby at 8.50 (ish) and turned on BBC2 (so it would have gone into timeshift mode)
    - play back is corrupt in MP front end. audio some times jumps to audio from another recording entirely, or jumps to another part of the file and video goes black. OR - audio and video go stuttery/clicky, and I get (stuttery/corrupt-looking )video from another recorde program entirely. This seems to be happening most often with BBCHD recordings. I have a recording which behaves like this in MP but if playback the TS file in cyberlink powerdvd8 directly - its absolutely fine!
    - same symptoms as above except play back is corrupt regardless of which app I run it in. filesize appears normal

I am using a blackgold 6-in-1 with 2xdvb-t and 2xdvb-s in use. At first I thought it was multiple simultaneous recordings that was breaking it, but of course I did a test with 3 at once and it ran fine whilst I was keeping an eye on it.

not sure you can help on this or not - main question is is it the piece of software that you have modified involved in any of the above? If I post all this onto a support forum, are the devs going to say you are using a nonstandard tswriter go away?

problem is it'll be hard for me to recording tests with the standard tswriter as I'll have no EPG!

Update your EPG and swap back to the original TSWriter then try watching the recording.

Its sounds like you have a problem with the TS Reader.

sorry do you mean try watching one of the corrupt recordings or make new ones under those conditions?

I'm sure the content of some of these TS files is actually really corrupt - I've tried a number now in VLC and cyberlink to bypass any mediaportal front end / database issues, and I keep seeing the same thing - random stuttering, jumps to a few seconds of video from an entirely different program, etc.

I'm not an expert on MP internals (far from it!) but wouldn't that point the finger at what writes to the files (or how the content of the files is arrived at in the first place) rather than what reads from the files?

"I have a recording which behaves like this in MP but if playback the TS file in cyberlink powerdvd8 directly - its absolutely fine!"

Thats what made me think its the TSReader. I would try using the original TSWriter to check both recording and reading.

Then you will know for certain.

This might be a bug in the TSWriter, but like I say the only modifications I make are nothing to do with TS Writing.

P.S. Is grab EPG whilst Timeshifting enabled?

sorry djblu hope I am not being annoying can you just be 100% explicit what you want me to try? Is it basically to run my system with the original tswriter (so remove your mod) for a week (as long as EPG lasts) and see if I get any more corruptions on new recordings?

P.S. Is grab EPG whilst Timeshifting enabled?
yes it is. is that worth disabling - without changing anything else?
this problem is lowering the WAF quite considerably - fortunately not had anything really umissable corrupted yet - so need to find a way to get to the bottom of it.

another forum user pm'd me with suggestion of tuner driver problems?

Sorry but this is getting totally off topic now.

Just grab the epg with the modified ts writer then use the original for a week.

I can't advise on drivers. Please can you ask in the support forum. thx.
