Hi all,

I think I have had a little breakthrough with this.

I am now able to get the groupings as per the sky box with all the tuning details(with some help from kingofsat). I am writing a program at the minute that will grab the information from a ts file.

I have got it to write an export file. I am just working on the Network Information Tables now. This will take a short while.

This will work for Sky UK and Italy.

The program will search for the Categories then you need to name them(This should only be once). It will then find all the tuning details and will get the PMT's from kingoftsat. I am trying to get intouch with them to see if they can make an ini file so it is easier.

This will then allow you to import the channels and you will have the full sky lineup. Oh and you will need to select your region in the UK too. Italy users don't.

Let me know if you would like anything added.

This will save searching having to search for 1100 channels.

Does this mean that (Eventually) we will be able to have a setup similar to Sky where you press the tvguide button and you get a menu similar to sky instead of seeing a tv guide first??

Doh - Safcsat beat me to it?

Hi DJBlu

My system comprises of a dedicated server with four clients.

I bought my first DVB-S card (Hauppauge Nova-S plus) last weekend, previously I had been using two dual DVB-T cards (Hauppauge Nova-T). But there is lots of trees where I live and I could never get satisfactory reception using freeview on all channels. Just ordered two more DVB-S cards (Hauppauge Nova-S). My plan is to have the three DVB-S cards and one dual DVB-T card, this setup gives me an impressive channel line-up on freeview I get Dave, Virgin1, and UKTV History and also sky and freesat channels giving me a great choice. With my DVB-T setup the EPG grabber worked well and I guessed EPG grabbing on the DVB-S cards would work the same way until I spotted this post...... I am very impressed with all the work you have done developing this fix. My EPG is now populating correctly on freeview, freesat and sky channels.

When the EPG grabber is doing its stuff my server becomes unusable for timeshifting, I looked at my servers performance and have noted during EPG grabbing the CPU is mostly maxed out at 100% and all my 1GB of RAM is used, with the old grabber and my DVB-T cards I believe the server was usable and defiantly the RAM stayed below 512MB (I know this because that's all I had fitted at the time) My server is only a Athlon XP 2600+ which is adequate for timeshifting and recording four or more channels at once, reading previous posts I have seen reference to high CPU and RAM use with your patch, also I have noticed that after the EPG grabber has run some RAM is not released, I guess there is something in your code that maxes out the system during DVB-S EPG grabbing have you any idea's? It would be an excellent improvement if you could reduce CPU and RAM usage!

There is no chance of the memory being reduced unless you allow for the user to select the channels they wish to receive data for. This would have to be introduced by a Dev tho.

Does the TVWriter have all the DVB-S channel details within the code? Are the DVB-T channels in there also? What I am thinking is that all this channel information clutters up the TVWriter for none Freesat/Sky use!

No DVB-T is a totally seperate system. Nothing for Sky is hard coded into the TSWriter. The information is grabbed from the transponder. So if you don't select the EPG channel then you won't receive it.

The best long term solution is to get this functionality put into the main code how do we encourage the developers to put this code into the SNV,s for the next release?

The project is on feature freeze so nothing will be added, I have asked.

I am sorry if my post appears critical of your work, I don't mean it that way I am trying to comment constructively, I really do appreciate the effort that you have put into this patch and thank you for sharing it with us, your dedication is appreciated.

As long as you show appreciation then thats all that matters be that a simple thanks or a small donation to the team.

Thx.

Do you mean that we will now be able to browse groups/genres such as the sky uk epg?!

I think I have been misunderstood a little.

What I am able to do is get all the tuning detail for Sky UK and Sky Italy from the one transponder & kingofsat(PMT info).

I am then able to get the group information and Sky Numbers. I will be writing a plugin that will be able to update your database and insert the channels and set up the groups in a way in which Sky Use. The TV Guide layout will be the same. You will still need to press the info button then select group I'm affraid.

Hi DJBlu,
could you confirm if the new ver works with MP 1.0 as well as the svn
many thanks

Should do. If not then I'll try and dig the source for 1.0 and mod it.

I've just tried this (your latest SVN tswriter.ax on MP1.0 release). Seems to be working ok for almost everything, but I've seen some programs have gobbledegook in the descriptions. If you want examples or logs, let me know what.

My corrupted recordings problem seems to have gone away by the way. I didn't change anything

Just to add a little more.

I have found out where the classification information is (i.e. 18,15,12,PG,U), I will update the TSWriter soon and will post an update.

That's really cool. This really should get added to the core functionality of MP, it makes me more and more tempted to get satellite hooked up here.

(the fact that I plan to move in the next few months is the only thing stopping me)
