It may be that you've been hit as follows (from post #141 above):

@mdsflyer - The first time you run the plugin, Skype will ask for permission for MediaPortal to access it - this is a security feature of Skype and cannot be suppressed. If you run MP in a window you should be able to see the dialog - click the "Allow this program to always access Skype" option and you should be fine from then on. (Let me know if this is/is not the problem...)

Nope nothing like that, I minimized MP and nothing in task manager nor event viewer.
Could it still be that v0107 of the plug in in not the right one?

Try opening the Skype "Manage other programs' access to Skype" dialog - depending on the version of Skype, I think it's a linki from the Privacy tab in Tools/Options. If MP doesn't appear in the list, then it hasn't tried to connect to Skype yet. Make sure that there's a copy of Skype4COM.dll in Program Files\Common Files\Skype - it should have been installed when you installed Skype, but only from v3.0 on.

There might be something in the MP Log file (in the MediaPortal\Logs)? Look for "SP->" as a flag for Skype Plugin messages.

It is possible that the version is the problem - try going back to an older release of Skype, maybe? I try not to be version dependent, apart from features that shouldbe disabled if you're running old version, so I hope that isn't the problem.

Also, have you tried variations on having Skype running/not running etc when starting MP?

Sorry it's all a bit difficult - hope we can get it sorted for you soon!

Fitst of all: you DON'T need to apologize AT ALL; given the situation, to me you do whatever is possible to solve this. BIG :D FOR THAT;)

    1) MP was not in the list of allowed programs of skype, only my bluetooth adapter and apparently there is no way to add it manually.

    2) I have tried with 2 different v3 skype versions but with none of them, the Skype4COM.dll gets installed (have my settings to see all files) Also checked my c:\program files since skype is on d: and did a search as well so it's not there at all.
I also tried with another system - vmware - where skype has not been installed yet, no Skype4COM.dll is installed either...

    3) This is the only 'sp' entry in the logfile: SP->OnUserStatusChanged cusOffline

    4) No difference whether running skype before launching MP or not. Something I've noticed: when skype is already running and I close MP, it shuts down skype as well. Don't know if this is relevant.

Hey today i found this plugin for skype maybe it helps you getting video integrated in MP. it supports also multivideo ....
    http://www.video4im.com

Thanks for the link. However, to be honest, even ignoring MP, I can't see any advantage in this product over Skype's Video-calling (apart from possibly multi-video conferencing)?

The problem with (Skype) Video Calls in MP is that I can't grab the video stream and present it in an MP video window, the way it is possible to redirect the audio stream to different devices. I don't think that the Video4IM will allow me to do this, either. OTOH, if there was an API that would allow me to capture a V4IM video stream and present it in an MP window (preferably using existing MP stream presentation functionality), then we'd be in business (zero-profit business since it's all open source, of course, but in business! :) ).

Finally, I'd always be concerned that V4IM looks like it might intend to be commercial (once it's out of test - it's currently V0.8.5 which I assume is kind of Beta-ish at best), and if we had built it into an MP plugin, that would present problems of a kind I think we wouldn't really want...

But thanks for suggesting it (and if my understanding of V4IM is incorrect, please let me know!) - I really do want to get Video Calling done one day...

I also tried with another system - vmware - where skype has not been installed yet, no Skype4COM.dll is installed either...

I think everything stems from the fact that the wrapper isn't being installed.

I just did some experiments, with the Skype 3.2.0.175 and 3.5.0.214 install packages. It appears that Skype4COM isn't installed unless you install the Extras Manager.

Assuming you haven't, on the first Skype installation wizard page, Click the Options button in the bottom left corner, and then make sure the "Update Skype Extras Manager" checkbox is set, then press Install.

You should hopefully then find the DLL in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Skype\Skype4COM.dll, and the plugin should work (crosses fingers)...

Glad it worked for you - hope it does for everybody else as well :)

I'm going to go to Skype and suggest that this quirk should be documented somewhere - if it is, it's pretty obscure...

    Andrew

Edit: They've documented it now, so it's official - you have to install the Extras Manager to get Skype4COM...
