mdsflyer - The first time you run the plugin, Skype will ask for permission for MediaPortal to access it - this is a security feature of Skype and cannot be suppressed. If you run MP in a window you should be able to see the dialog - click the "Allow this program to always access Skype" option and you should be fine from then on. (Let me know if this is/is not the problem...)

reagan+carter - thanks! Kudos to maniac's for the original version, of course!

Sorry about the long delay since the last version - a new one is in the offing, but not with any major enhancements at present (just lack of time causing the delay...)

I don't have test your plugin yet, but I would...
Do you think it's possible to add video conferencing into your plugin ?

Finally - another release V0.1.1.0

This version is superceded by V0.1.1.1 - see https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/showpost.php?p=205951&postcount=168

Requires MediaPortal 0.2.3.0 RC1

V0.1.1.0 is (in spite of the excessive delay!) a minor "improvement" release, but does include a (Blue Two) wide version of the skin which should be installed automatically.

Not much else has changed, really - the Contact Details screen is now available, but needs skin tweaks to look a bit prettier.

Scubefr - Video conferencing is problematic since Skype doesn't currently provide a way to capture/redirect the video stream. You can control (start/stop) your own camera from the context menu, but you can't view the incoming stream in MediaPortal.

Anthrax - If you use the MCE Replacement Plugin, I believe you should be able to map the Messenger button to the Skype plugin now...

As always, report bugs etc here please.

Notes:

1. You need to install the Extras Manager when installing Skype - this will install the Skype4COM wrapper required. Alternatively, you can download Skype4COM from the Skype website at https://developer.skype.com/Docs/Skype4COM

2. Vista: On Vista, MediaPortal and Skype have to run at the same Integrity Level. Since MP runs as Administrator, this means that the best way to start Skype is to let MP do it (either automatically at start up, or on demand from the plugin).

3. Vista: If you have a Skype phone (e.g. Philips VOIP321), you have to make sure that its drivers are also running as administrator (since MP has to anyway). Otherwise, the phone will not be able to connect to Skype.

Getting skype to work in MP

Hi guys, is there a condensed installation guide for installing skype?
    Trough a search I found:
    - ActiveSInstall_10201.msi
    - Skype v 1.4
    - Skype4MP.rar
    - SkypeChatPlugin 1.0.0.0

In the beginning of this tread, there is some information; is this still the way to do it?
If I start skype in MP nothing happens; with the version that I have now I get the interface but I cannot start skype eventhough it works fine in windows.

    Thanks in advance!
    P.

    Hi Peter2 -

The SkypeChatPlugin is no longer supported - most/all of its functionality is contained in the Skype4MP plugin provided here; also, the current version uses Skype4COM.dll (included in the Skype instllation), rather than the (rather old) ActiveS wrapper - you should probably uninstall/remove the ActiveS if you did install it.

Get the latest version of Skype (3.5.0.xxx I think) from www.skype.com and install it. (V1.4 is very old).

Get Skype4MPv0110.zip from the post just above - unzip it then run the .exe. Open the MediaPortal Configuration, enable the Skype Plugin (down in the Window Plugins section), and set the parameters as you want...

Note - the plugin has only been skinned for BlueTwo and BlueTwo Wide, so if you use another skin, you'll have to copy and/or modify the appropriate files (sorry!)

Note: I've had one instance where the Skype4COM.dll wasn't installed - we couldn't work out why not, but I recommend selecting all Skype components - it may have been not installing the Skype Extras Manager that caused the problem... Copying the file from another PC and using regsvr32 worked fine to fix this problem.

    Let me know what happens!

    Hi Andrew,

Thanks for replying so quick on this issue.
I've done as you told, have skype 3.2.0.163 running and after installing Skype4MPv0110 I was directed to the MP configuration utility where I got the following error message:

    Plugin Manager
An error occured while loading the plugin maniac.MediaPortal.Skype.GUISkype.
It's incompatible with the current MediaPortal version and won't be loaded.

I'm still using MP v0.2.2.0 without any svn and the BlueTwo skin.
My mediaportal is installed in D:\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal and using xp sp2 patched until June'07.

Any clue what might be wrong?
    Tnx
    P.

    Needs version 0.2.3.0

... got the following error message:

I'm still using MP v0.2.2.0 without any svn and the BlueTwo skin.
    ...

Yep :) - it's compiled against 0.2.3.0 RC1, so needs that version to run.

If you don't want to update, you could try the version at

    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/showpost.php?p=139879&postcount=133

but to be honest I can't remember what version it was compiled against - might have been an SVN, and so it might still not work...

    Cheers,
    Andrew

So can I just install this plug in (v0109) over the previously installed (v0110) one?
I'm a little bit reluctant to 'just' install stuff on my MP since I don't want to screw up the system since I'm using it daily.
Can I just go back 1 version at the time until the plug in would appear in the configuration utility?

I know very well that sometimes you have to try things and I understand that this project - which I JUST LOVE - is made by enthusiasts in their free time but even though I'm quite familiar with a few OS's and a lot of applications as well troubleshooting left and right, I don't have a grip yet on troubleshooting MP.

    Tnx,
    P.

PS: the SkypeChatPlugin is still available as a download when you browse the plug ins from the home page. Does it make sense to keep it there?

UPDATE: I have installed v0107 and it seems to work in a sense that the configuration utility is not complaining anymore, the plug in is visible and I'm able to configure it as well.
When I start skype from within MP, I get the menu on the left but I cannot start skype & it stays offline.
If I click on 'Start Skype' not much seems to happen where as it's working like it should outside MP...
