Slow GUI unless watching DVD (1 Viewer)

The GUI is slow and jerky, unless I play a DVD and minimize it, which makes the GUI very smooth. I've had it in 0.2.3.0 and with two different videocards now.

I've tried a lot of settings like V-sync, Exclusive mode etc. but with no result.

HDD: 120gb seagate IDE
Memory: 512 mb ram (2x 256)

Please, can't anyone point me in any direction.... i've tried most things i can think of, i've searched the forums and internet for any clues but i've reached a dead end here :/

1) Make sure MP window has focus (GUI engine doesnt render at full speed when the focus is on some other application.
2) Its possible to change the GUI FPS setting inside MP (somewhere under settings...). The default value is 25FPS, but for example DVD playback will increase the FPS to 50/60 depending on the DVD content.

Yes, the GUI is generally slower when not playing any video content. The setting inside MP will only increase the max FPS, but the GUI will still be slow during animations etc. or when overlays are shown (depending on the system).
