Hello, I am running a Win7 box with everything updated. It is a core2duo quad core 2.66ghz with 4 gb ram. Cant remember the video card but it is decent enough to play pretty much anything out. I have about 9tb of local storage and another 12tb on a enterprise class nas connected with iscsi. I use mptv and moving pictures primarily.

Videos play great with no stuttering or other issues. What I am having an issue with is the interface. It is very slow and often times becomes unresponsive abd has to be restarted. I am guessing it is struggling with the amount of data trying to be processed because I can hear the hard drive hitting the random access reads. My question I guess is the program database driven and can it be upgraded to a more robust platform if that is the issue. Also, it is running on an older drive so I am thinking about upgrading to a ssd. Another option I have is upgrading to 8gb fiber from the nas, but I don't think that would help much.

thoughts?

Your machine should be able to keep up I would have thought, not speedy but not too slow either.

What skin are using, what plugins other than MovingPictures, etc?

MediaPortal client is not database driven as such, but does use databases, as do plugins [moving pictures certainly does].

Re moving to 8GB fiber - I run my NAS on 200MBs powerline, and it's fine so 8gb - over kill I think.

SSD on the otherhand - go for it, massive improvement all round.

At 4G RAM, IF you have very large databases, you could be hitting memory limits [so your PC is swapping to disk].

Without logs [could be non-fatal corruption in database], limited on what to say next, but:

    1) Clear old logs if you have them.
    2) While MePo is running, run taskmanager and look at memory usage.
    3) Get yourself the SSD - which then prompts clean install of 1.5 - see https://www.team-mediaportal.com/extensions/system/backupsettings for backing up settings, but if your changing versions, may not work - I always manually backup database & thumbs directories, then drop them back in later.

Logs & system details - see https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...-and-fill-in-system-specs-for-support.118424/ for how to update your profile & post logs.

    Cheers - J.

So I got the SSD drive last night. Did a clean Windows install so I could get trim support, ran all Windows updates and service packs, etc. Installed drivers and k-lite codecs. Installed MP and ran a restore from the backup.

Performance on loading times is certainly better, but it is still very jumpy going through the selection list for moving pictures and even worse for mp-tv. The skin I am running is StreamedMP.

I am also having another issue after the reload where when I start playing a video, it is fine for the first minute or so, then all controls lockup for the remote control and keyboard. The movie keeps playing, but I cannot stop, pause, ff, rw, anything. I have tried changing codecs but I get the same results.

The video card by the way is a ATI HD3600 with 512mb ram.

Sure, logs are attached. Something else to note, when the system freezes while watching a video, The task bar and start button become unresponsive. I have to reboot the computer to regain control. I have tried logging out, but when I log back in, the system is still unresponsive. I also just got a bsod on the last attempt to shut down media portal. First time I have ever seen one on this computer.

I am trying to isolate the problem further and will report anything else I find.

Edit: I uninstalled or re-installed a couple of the plugins that were showing up in the logs. It seems to be doing better as far as not locking up during play, but the sluggishness is still there when browsing through selections.

I had just switched to VMR9 a few minutes before I pulled the logs for troubleshooting purposes.
After disabling the plugins, I was able to watch a single tv show without any issues. As soon as I started a second one, the system froze up again and had to be rebooted.

I attached the latest set of logs.

    Thank you.

Update: So still locking up and getting some other weird issues this morning. I am wondering if I should just blow away the entire Media portal application and reinstall it without running the backup. I would really rather not because it takes an entire day to go through and get all the names correct in databases, but it is better than having it lock up during every show.

Went ahead and reloaded the entire os fron scratch. Used a different Win7 dvd and redownloaded all the drivers. I only let it index about half the movies.

Still having the same problen with freezing up during any videos. Is this a problem with version 1.5, or maybe a plugin causing it? I will post some more logs later. On my phone now.

just curious, do you have Automatically Select Codec set in MyVideo Settings? When I had that set on my HTPC I would occasionally get lockups when stopping a video. Although, on my client, I don't have issues. I just turned it off on my HTPC.

It may not be the problem, but thought I would ask anyway.
