Lately we got many requests from people asking to add support for SW encoding TV capture cards.
This however is not an easy task since there are so many cards out there. While browsing the web I came across an opensource application called DScaler which claims it can watch & record TV from almost any SW based TV Capture card.
If this really works we might integrate DScaler into MediaPortal. But before starting we need to know if DScaler indeed works!

So please help us, test DScaler and tell us if it works or not.

Check to see if you have one of these functioning cards:
    http://www.dscaler.org/card-support/index.htm

Could you guys download dscaler here:
    http://www.dscaler.org/downloads.htm

    Then follow the setup here:
    http://www.dscaler.org/setup/index.htm

And do some recording, viewing tuning etc etc and report here what worx and whatnot.

Faq on usage of dscaler is here:
    http://www.dscaler.org/FAQ.htm

Thanx for all the help! and show how badly you want to have software tvcards support :).

I installed DScaler some time ago.
Its a realy nice application. Ans yes, it works.
Support für newer cards with BT881 ist not so good. There are some collisions with the original drivers of this cards. But cards with the older BT-Chips or Philips-Chips work great.

But, Dscaler does not use the WDM-Driver. It uses its own driver and makes direct access to the hardware. This is the normal way.
There was the idea to implement support for access through WDM. I dont know the actual state.

NextViewEPG uses the drivers of DScaler too.

    AverTV Studio works

Well it took me starting up my regular software first for it to recognize it, but I got DScaler to work with the AverTV Studio card that I have.

did the old MP tv support work with your AIW card? I believe the old support used the WMD drivers to capture.

Pinnacle PCTV Pro didn´t work. It froze my computer. I found a tipp to test some settings with the used chip, but all now tested caused problems. I´ll test the rest this weekend.

Did anyone already test the Terratec Cinergy?

Dscaler does not sounds like the correct choice
since it uses its own drivers and many ppl have problems with it
    2 bad..

DScaler as it is certainly not the right choice here. However I think it would be good to add a non OPVR TV viewing interface for use with analog cards allowing things like external channel selection, format switching, teletext, CC. Basically I would see this as a new player type that maybe took a file input of type .tv which contained the details of the analog graph to build.

It would be good to get DScaler's film detection and deinterlacing availiable in mdeaiportal once I've finished converting the core DScaler code to DirtectShow filters.

    Cheers
