You could also just change render in the GUI. Dunno what i did, but it works:)

The problem is that I have lots of video content that has AC3, DTS sound. Sometimes I want to listen through my surround sound stereo system. However, other times I just want to listen to it using the built-in speakers on my TV. This is especially true late at night or for TV series content (of which I have alot). I feel the best solution would be to output the AC3 sound through the spdif and convert it to pcm and output through the analog out simultaneously. That way I could just mute the TV or turn off the stereo depending where I want the audio to come from. But after reading this thread, this is not currently possible.

So far, Netexplorer's script solution seems the best to me. One button pressed on the remote seems much simpler than navigating to the settings menus, changing the renderer, and navigating back to TVSeries, Moving Pictures, etc. every time I want to switch from one sound mode to the other. JMHO.
