Speeding up shares view (1 Viewer)

Shares view is very slow when it accesses a network folder with a lot of items (500ish). It takes like 3-4 seconds to respond, at that time media portal freezes. I am wondering what is causing this? I know windows shares (via active directory) is much faster, almost instantaneous.

Does anyone have this issue too? Under shares view when you access a large folder the whole media portal freezes and any commands you put in will execute as soon as the list has finished loading.

Just wondering why it takes so long in media portal.

I have this same issue.. The problem didn't exist in RC1, but after that it appeared and is still there. I have quite a few shares and its quite frustrating. Maybe someone else has an idea..

I think the answer has been, if these have been scanned and files are in the db, use title view for access as much faster.

This may change in the future, but unlikely pre MP1.

Yes, I have this issue too, and pretty much always have.

Surely using the 'Title' view is not the solution here? I, amongst many I imagine, am quite happy with networked shares.

Why should MediaPortal remain extremely sluggish in browsing them, when Explorer and other networked machines have no problems at all?

There must be an underlying issue here, as I have read several posts describing this problem, yet I have not seen any input from Devs acknowledging the problem, nor a concrete fix for it.

Devs have for the last year been ironing out bugs and focusing on stable core functionality to get to a final v1 release. I find it strange that attention to basic networking issues has not seemed to be addressed???!

Using the scanned db is not a solution for me. As my files are named in a strange way, that the scraper would not find the movie. If there was a scan by folder name function instead it would be good (that feature is also not availiable)

I built a HTPC to replace my Xbox Media Center as it was starting to struggle opening my movie folder with 680 files, what was taking 10 seconds on the ~700mhz xbox is now taking 30 seconds in MediaPortal RC1 with an Athlon 4600 Dual Core.

From what i've read here Share view used to be quick, can it not be changed back?

If not.. scanning files into the database and using Title view would be fine if I could sort by Date, I like to see my newest movies at the top of the list but in Title view the Date sort seems to be broken.
