I too have the identical problem. Had MP working before. Deleted and loaded latest version - can not get past the SQL problem. Deleted (complete) and reinstalled ten times now. Same thing every time.
I only want to use MP on a single system running XP SP3 with all latest updates.
I really want to use MP but I am getting very frustrated.

you will never see this screen (the screen shot on page 1 in this thread) if you install MP correctly....and u have never installed MySQL before

u will never see that screen.

if you do..then u have a previous installation that is incompatible with MP

MP itself will download/install the correct version of MYSQL and put in all the values in its installation

as far as i know anyway

i did have a problem with this due to the fact i had a previous install and once uninstalled...MP installed perfectly without ever seeing that screen

Thank you - that solved my installation problem. Now in the positive interest of helping others (and a person who made their living as a programmer) this issue could be avoided by clearly specifying that MYSQL must be removed before installing. Perhaps we could all contribute in a small way by helping to rewrite the installation procedure to make it 'idiot proof'. I would certainly be interested in contributing. It would be interesting to see how many posts could have been eliminated by more precise instructions.
    Again thanks for your help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which version of MySQL you had before ?
Wasn't the problem all down to a wrong config (no tcp auth, different pwd not even known, etc) ?

I have already removed it to get MP to load - but I am sure it was version 5.1 which I had downloaded a few months ago when trying out another application.
In the list of installs during MP install it showed MYSQL as being in situ and therefore did not install it - similar to Direct X e.g.

I think you are correct in your suggestions about being unable to connect.
