SQl Server 2005 uses a lot of memory (1 Viewer)

At the moment i´m using the actual MP 1.1. Works very good so far.
But i´ve seen, that the MS SQL 2005 uses a lot of memory (about 700Mb!). Does the newer MS SQL 2008 use less memory? Is the performance better?

MS SQL uses huge cache, but let it use. It would be just wasted memory otherwise and that cache speeds up the EPG related use quite nicely.

You can limit MS SQL memory usage in SQL Server Configuration Manager. Personally I have limited it to 512 MB.

And yes, it does make sense to limit it, there is NO WAY that any TV-database including indexes and all content cached will EVER fill up 512 MB.

As far as I know MS SQL tries to predict all kinds of weird SQL queries and caches the results. MS SQL is just plain weird (when used in MediaPortal, that is).

I dont know if there is a chance to archive transaction logs of the SQL Server MSDE. I think this will decrease DB size.
