Starting work on Techno Trend Premium support (4 Viewers)

After some investigation there are two ways that I can finish this support. I can create a custom graph for mediaportal that connects the filters manually exactly how it needs to be hooked up for the tt premium. Or I can write a BDA driver that will support the tt premium. I am leaning toward the BDA driver because it will allow not only mediaportal to use it but any program that supports bda. It is going to take more work and more time to write a bda driver. Anyone want to weight in on the decision?

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

Afaik there is a technical problem with the tt premium's chipset which prevents the writing of bda drivers, but if you know a way to write one in my opinion that would definately be the way to go

(Look for instance at this http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/archive/index.php?t-9775.html thread from which I quote
Chris22-03-2007, 08:32 AM
"The biggest issue with the TT Premium is that the way it's designed means it will never support BDA"
and this one http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/archive/index.php?t-4917.html where they tell it has a hardware PID filter which is incompatible with bda)

If you have to write the graph I guess the best way to go would be to get the rest of the sources Samantha (Drak's wife) is offering since I know that he had a working situation complete with rewritten MPSA filters for USA sat-support.
Those sources are written for the pre MP TVserver era but my guess is that they are a good opportunity for a jump-start.
I think they never made it to svn, since Drak put his work on hold to wait for the MP TVserver to mature (See the postings in this thread a while ago https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/starting_work_techno_trend_premium_support-t4199p15.html where Drak tells it's working and the project is on hold and dman-lfc asks to put the sources in SVN, dman's question was for a very sad reason never answered...)

Strawberry, right you are. I was thinking I could fake the ts which I can but the problem is that the PID's are filtered at the mpeg2 demux filter stage and the demux filter expects the full ts with no filtering to be passed down to it. It looks like the only way I can go is with custom graph inside the tvengine. I also have the source from Sam already.

If any devs read this can you tell me in the tvengine3, does the tswriter expect a full ts with all video and audio streams + mpeg2 sections or just the video and audio for the tuned PID + mpeg2 sections?

thanks all,
Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

did you get in touch with a dev already?
I know they can be reached at I think mIRC, https://www.team-mediaportal.com/content/view/36/41/
I know that info is from 2005 but I don't think they moved to somewhere else ;)

DShowNet.TechnoTrend class callback exception

Hi All,

I am looking for some help with an unhandled exception that is being thrown in the DShowNet.TechnoTrend class.

When I run the MediaPortal.Configuration project in Debug with no ariel connected to my TT DVB-S tuner and start the Auto tune, it throws an unhandled exception.

The exception is thrown as the callback "OnSlotStatus" completes (on a different thread to the UI).

If I comment out the wireup of the callback handler in the constructor ...

_technoTrendStructure.onSlotStatus = new PCBFCN_CI_OnSlotStatus(OnSlotStatus);

then I no longer get the exception and all seems to work OK.

Can anyone tell me what / where the callback is raised, or any other info that may help me solve the problem?

Additional info to win32 exception above

If I run the bin/debug version outside of VS, then it crashes at the beginning of the Autotune in a similar way, but when I select VS as the debugger, then I get the following error information:

"Unhandled exception at 0x0009a5d9 in Configuration.exe: 0xC0000005:
Access violation writing location 0x00000000.

This suggests to me that the "unsafe" callback is trying to write to a memory location and the pointer has not been initialised (i.e. is 0x00000000).

Can anyone else reporoduce this problem?

I wanted to share with an email i had with TT's support last week:

Dear Support,

Why can’t you provide the driver as an upgrade / alternative to be available for your clients, since all the .Net applications right now use the BDA drivers, and still have the WDM ones packaged your product and with it the Digital-TV? No one said to throw away the old WDM, but also have the BDA available to the public, otherwise these cards will be obsolete very soon, and it’s a shame since they are the most powerful DVB-s cards in the market.

I am very sorry but your explanation is not a very good one. If you would like, I could round up the users of premium cards and send a petition to your management requesting them to provide BDA drivers for the TT cards, will that help your development team to work on this thing, because honestly you know very well that BDA has been the standard for MS products since some time now, and even more, it will be the standard for the coming few years as well, so it’s very sad to see a well established company like yours cannot keep up with standards for its top technological product – these cards are like Mercedes of dvb cards, and you treat it as if it was, well one fo those cheap Chinese knock-off that do not have any support whatsoever behind it.

Please do something that is worthy of your ‘Technotrend’ name.

Best Regards

xxxxx

Subject: AW: BDA Drivers for Premium card

Dear Sir,

The Premium was introduced when the WDM-driver was the actual standard of Microsoft. The BDA-standard was developped later. Currently the WDM-driver includes the device driver and the programm Digital-TV. If we change the driver-standard, we also need a new tv-application.

With kind regards

Hi all

I have managed to get my Hauppauge Nexus-s aka tt-premium and skystar1 i believe, card and MP play together :) I've used the DVBSBridge and MyTheatre. It seems that MyTheatre is the only application that will produce a correct stream for DVBSBridge. I tried with Progdvb also, as it's free, but that didn't work. So far I have only tested with a few fta channels from the Sirius satellite. EPG also doesn't work and I don't know if it will. Anyway, I thought this was good news.

Hi mrman,

that's nice to hear, if I understand it correctly you put the Nexus in a system with mytheatre, dvbsbridge "picks up" the stream and passes it on to MP?
How does dvbsbridge work in MP, i only read about it in combination with mce?
