    Hi,
Today when I resumed my machine (MP1.5) it started up fine and displayed MePo moving pictures module as this was the place it went to sleep last night. I then opened up the TV guide and started BBC News channel. The channel began playing but I had this weird screen resolution. The desktop is set to 1080p but the picture only filled about a third of the upper right of the screen and the picture was all strange with ghosting lines like it was interlaced or something strange. I quit MePo but the desktop was the same also so had to do a hard reboot. I did take a screen shot of MePo while it was this way but after rebooting I opened the image I had saved and it looks perfectly normal full 1080p with clear picture??

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas what it could be because I just brought a new Onkyo TX-NR626 receiver on Saturday and finally started running my PC through HDMI through a receiver so I'd like to rule out something being wrong with the receiver. First time I've ever seen that screen effect, but it definitely only triggered the problem when live TV started (SD channel so maybe a resolution change occurred?

    Thanks

Hmm, its done it again.. appears to be when starting BBC News (standard definition) over satellite. I took some photos on my phone so I could upload them. As soon as the stream starts the video moves to the upper right corner of the screen and goes all weird like it's ghosting / interlaced. But even after the stopping the stream (which is difficult because the on screen dialogue box still appears to display as if it was in the centre of the TV so most of it is hidden) my PC stays in this weird situation. Even after quitting MePo, even the desktop is like this and I have to reboot my machine to fix it. I am watching other TV channels OK.

Attached are new logs (after a reboot) and screens that show the problem.

    Anyone able to help? Thanks

PS No idea why the photos got flipped upside down when I uploaded them :)

Well maybe its all SD channels then. I just started Sky News SD and it did it again. However this time the display was full height, but not width (black area on the right) but it still looked all ghosted. Took some more screens. I fired up my AV receivers on screen display and that looks fine so it must be coming out the PC like that and not the receiver doing it. The information shows that the receiver still believes it is receiving a 1080p input?

The strange thing is if I take a screen shot using printscreen, after I have rebooted and I view the screenshot, it looks fine..

EDIT: Just fired up BBC 2 HD and its done the same thing. Not sure if it was broadcasting in HD though.. maybe the only SD thing is a red herring. But definitely yesterday I watched Return of the Jedi on ITV HD and then put it on again on ITV +1 and it was playing fine..

I've tried launching a movie in moving pictures and a tv show in tvseries, but the display never seems to recover without a reboot.

Edit 2: Well it looks like its something to do with my receiver. When I retry all this connected directly to the TV it doesn't happen :( thats news I didn't want to hear. Could this still be something MePo is causing?

Something HDMI related is not happy.
I reckon if you replugged the HDMI then you wouldn't have to reboot.

Hi, its started doing it on normal videos and stuff now. Its certainly not happy during the handshake. You are also correct, if I turn off the receiver and turn it back on again, it's OK again. As soon as I start some media, it goes back to being odd.

I'll take a look at what audio devices are set up in windows. I thought I'd disabled the one it created when I had it plugged into my TV (thats the only Samsung device I have so it must be that).

Well in sound devices only my receiver is enabled, there are various HDMI port entries and SPDIF but everything is disabled. No Samsung entry at all. In MePo config, everything is set to LAV and default direct sound device.

How would you suggest I go about sorting this out? Is it definitely a Windows issue and not MePo?

Yes, the Samsung device is almost certainly your TV.
I'm no expert with HDMI issues. I use MP on a desktop PC (literally, a PC that I use at a desk) with a 24" monitor connected via DVI. I'm not sure whether it is a Windows or MP issue or how you go about sorting it out.

So I went into the Sound Options of windows, disabled all the HDMI port entries (whatever they are) and just left the one enabled which is my receiver. I also went into MePo config and noticed in the codec sections, nothing was selected for renderer. I dropped them all down to default direct sound device. Maybe they were set to the samsung entry which got removed when I took it out the TV into my new receiver? Anyhow.. after a reboot, the problem seems corrected. It's strange as it's been working all week except that channel, but then today it started doing it on all media, live TV all channels, SD and HD mkv files etc.. and I haven't messed with any settings all week.

Anyhow, seems to be working now, was beginning to panic. Thanks for giving me some idea of the area to focus on!

I just hope the problem stays away. HDMI issues... can be a pain.

Hmm, so its started doing it again. Also when I cycle the power on my receiver as TV is playing, it sometimes causes MePo to crash.. Where would be the best place to report this? I thought Scythe had fixed these HDMI issues? Am I having the HDMI halfscreen issue? :(
