Some more info on this issue, as I have been struggling with it for a while, but now it seems to be solved. This has especially been an issue on some childrens DVDs, where the menus might be a bit more "colorful" than normal DVDs. I got the problem to go away by using PDVD7.3, but after installing MP1.0.2 it came back.
I still have no clue what is causing the problem, but after doing a clean install with Vista SP2, MP1.0.2 and SAF codec package (+PDVD8 codec) everything is running nicely. I use the standard DVD Navigator, PDVD8 as DVD Video Codec, and AC3 Filter as Audio Codec.
Everything seems to be working very well at the moment, no weird DVD menu behavior and my direct choice of language and subtitles while the movie is running is also back to normal.
