Hi,

I'm using MP for many years now and I'm more or less happy with it.
I have a strong dedicated server with a lot of storage, a Digital Devices Octopus with 4 DVB-S2 tuners, a 12GB Ram-Disk for timeshifting and a SSD-drive for the system.

I actually have the following problem:
Client A is watching program A
Client B is watching program B
-> so far, no problem. Every client can zap around without any trouble
But as soon as client B switches to program A (or client A to program B) I'm getting a stuttering on both clients for about 2 seconds.

Is this a known problem? Is there a solution? I already tried to avoid the RTSP-streaming but it didn't changed anything.

regards
mts

    Hi mts

As far as I'm aware this is not a known problem, so if you want help you will need to post logs from the server and each client showing what happens.

I have aprox. the same setup as you and i believe i have seen this also. If the signal is not strong enough this behavior will show. Is it possible for you to try and install an amplifier in front of the tuners and test again?

I should have asked before: does it matter if program A or B are encrypted/free?
Stutter is pretty much unavoidable when the program is encrypted because the CAM usually has to be told which channel(s) must be decrypted. This would not be obvious in a single-seat environment because you're only watching one channel, but you could possibly reproduce by recording and encrypted channel and then starting to timeshift a second encrypted channel. I would often expect to see a short stutter in the recording at the time when the timeshifting is started.

    Hi,
    thanks for your quick response.
    Meanwhile I made some logs.
I have this problem with FTA and encrypted channels.
The signal is even very strong and I don't have any other stuttering. This stuttering is only for the first seconds when a second client starts watching the same channel.

    Hi mts

Sorry it has taken so long to respond.
I can see what you're talking about, but it is quite complex to work out exactly what is happening in the code. To me it looks like the server side TsWriter is paused for a short time while the second client is added, and this seems to be causing the stuttering for the other client (since the other client is timeshifting with the same "subchannel"). Does that make sense?

I actually noticed some strange code that might be causing this when I was doing some clean up recently. Are you using MP 1.2.3? If so, I might be able to provide you with a patch to see if it fixes the problem. I'll post again later with the patch...

    Hi, thanks for your reply.
I'm using the 1.2.3, so if you send me your patch I can try it directy.

    Hi again

    Here is the patch:
    1. Stop the TV service.
    2. Ensure that TV Server configuration is closed.
    3. Take a backup of the TVLibrary.dll in your TV Server install folder.
    4. Download and extract the attached TVLibrary.dll into your TV Server install folder.
    5. Restart TV Server and test. :)

    Hi mm,

thanks for the patch but unfortunately the problem is still there.
I have the feeling it's less then before, but maybe its only imagination.
