Hello everybody,

I have MP set up with TVServer3 and its working like a charm using my DVB-T stick.
I just got a new DVB-S(2) card (Terratec Cinergy S2 PCI HD) yesterday, which should have been installed correctly I daresay, but havent been able to find any channels so far.

Depending on my configuration of the LNB, I either get "Nothing found" or "No signal" for every frequency during the scanning-process. I actually get an (almost) fully "Signal Quality" when I have those "Nothing found" frequencies, but no Signal level (and no channels, of course)

Some info that you might need:

  • Driver (dvb-s card) version: 1.1.0.101 (havent found any other driver that would work, other Twinhan drivers dont seem to work)
  • I have copied the LNB configuration from a satellite-set-top-box here in my house which works without a problem. I dont have a clue what LNB low frequency etc. is but I configured TvServer so it would match the values of the set-top-box.
  • I have 2 LNB (1 for Astra, 1 for Hotbird)
  • I am close to tears, I want my mommy :(

According to what I've read in the forum, the card itself might not be the best out there (floppyDTV of course is better but I actually only want dvb-s to watch 2 channels I cant receive via DVB-T, so the price of that card scares me a little) but there are people who actually got it working (seems even with the same driver I am using o_O)

Any ideas would be appreciated

Hi,

I have just tested with build 17915 and scanning channels works fine here with Cinergy S2 HD with same drivers as you use. I have the same satelites as you but on a 4 ports DiceqC. I'm running Windows XP with all recomended and required updates and fixes mentioned in MediaPortalRequirements - MediaPortal Wiki Documentation

It seems like I'm no longer able to get any HD channels to work but need to test that a bid more before confirming it.

This might be a long text with no valuable information for someone who is seeking a solution to his similar problem, so the short version is:

>> Try Vista Service Pack 1, it might actually help. <<

Long (and probably unecessary) test:

Ok so I did some further investigations:
Installed the original Terratec software which had the same results: none
I called Terratec support, the guy there seemed smart so we tried some stuff but without any luck (you cant even change LNB high/low settings etc. in their software without adding undocumented entries to some .ini file *sigh*)
Nothing helped.

Then I installed Vista Service Pack 1, retried -> Still no change
I modified some config stuff, retried, rolled back the changes and started a new scan, turned off the monitor (the tv connected via dvi/hdmi actually) and went away thinking "haha wouldnt that be funny if it worked NOW?"

And funny it was. (This will now get confusing...)

When I got back an hour later, the scan found ~1k channels.
I mapped them and started MP, when tuning to one of the channels, MP crashed.
Tried manual timeshifting in TVServerManager -> crash
Tried previewing channel in TVServerManager -> Preview failed: UnableToStartGraph
Started a new scan without changing the config -> no signal
Did some reboots and other stuff, nothing changed.

Then at some point I moved the pc a little which probably caused the "satellite cable" (Haha, sounds like buying wifi-cable on ebay...) to shift a little and suddenly the running scan changed from "no signal" to finding channels.
Now everything actually works, I can watch all the satellite phonesex channels I never wanted! :)

I would now just think that the only problem I ever had was/is a bad cable, but the cable was never moved before that last time... and the cable itself never made any problems before (and still doesnt when I connect it to a set-top-box)... and I dont want to think about that the problem I had was somehow connected to my tv being on...

Hi Guys
Was forced to install TV-Server due to my new Cinergy S2. That's where hell began: TV-server channel search/tuning makes TV-Server crash after just a couple of channels. In fact, after replaceing the psisdect.dll etc it's has gone even worse: now it failsl on the Cinergy S2 already after 8 channels - before it was 32. I'm tuned in to Thor 08W. AND, my wonderful Hauppauge 4000, which worked perfectly well under Mediaportal (no TV-Server) can not be tuned in either (cards in tandem in my HTPC). Tried unplug the Hauppauge completely but still crash.

Questions:
1. Any ideas what the heck is going on and how I could solve this?
2. Is there a way to manually import/key in the channels for the two cards respectively?

Utmost happy for answers!

Regards
Fredrik

Hi fchristi,

The Cinergy S2 have a problem with the drivers, that is causing the application or in worth cases the pc to crash. I have talked to Terratec about the issue and they are working on a fix. Sadly I or they don't have a workaround so until this get fixed I'm sorry to say that we just have to wait.
