Many, many great skins never get finnished/updated, which IMO is a shame.... here is a øist of some of the "goodies" (IMO):

Hello all, long time since my last visit to this forum. I've decided to discard MP since i've discovered TVedia that in my oppinion it's much better (no tv support, but i don't want this feature). As some of you suggested here, MP doesn't have a well organized system to use skins, in my oppinion, the most important thing in a HTPC software is the interface, and MP has a very poor support for interface designers, the basics are allways changing and if i develop a nice skin, only a few weeks after it doesn't work. Also there is not a skin designer tool and it's very tedious and boring to manually edit all of those XML files. However if someone is interested i can help with the skin doing the gfx part and maybe that other person with more time and patience than me could develop the XML files for the community...

    Best regards,

    .:FiDo:.

hi, the nonafo gfx and also the xml files can be used by everyone, even if they don't belong to mediaportal... i dont have any permissions on them. please, everyone who wants to use the gfx should feel free to use it.

i had some hard time the past couple months which took me a little away from mediaportal (well, that's how life sometimes goes), but be sure, i'll be back in time

unfortunately i lost the source gfx (psd files) due to a hdd crash, so i can't provide anything then the files you can already download in the download section...

thanks for keeping the skins alive, and hey - let's see what the future brings

I absolutelky loved the Blue2 Mod Steele skin, which as the name suggests is a mod of Blue Two. It was discontinued a long time I can't even remember who made it originally.

I've been updating it with slightly modified bits of regular Blue2 XMLs and it still works well, but there are some buddies that I don't have dark icons for and Graphics really isn't my thing.

It's a great skin, if anyone wants a copy of it, then PM me :)

Blue2 Mod Steele skin looks great. Shame it's over. I do graphocs but don't know where to start. The skin making software has so much stuff in it. I'm not surprised there aren't many skins being made.

It still works well, I use it on my ntwo MP machines. The only thing is that some of the buddies are the regular vesions, since the plugins were created after support stopped (for example, MyWebBrowser)

Damn, some of those are very good.

I don't want to agree that is safe to say that all skins will eventually die except B2... it is definately NOT what the devs want.

The major problem for the dying skin development is of course that there is no real skin editor any more and people may get bored tweaking numerous XML scripts after a while. We all know this is the reason (that doesn't stop me from getting attacks when I mention it).

I think we'll see a major burst in skin development when the next skin engine comes along. I am already looking at those new MS design tools, so I can be ready. ;)

Vanessa will Rule Them All eventually though. Esp. if she keeps a distance from everything else in here, than skin development.

some very nice skins in that list.

creating a skin means much work, we all know that.

but maintaining a skin for months/years means even much more work and efforts. and that is the reason why many projects are not continued :(

indeed - this shouldn't stop people maintaining skins for major revisions (when it gets easier hopefuly, with the next engine)

the problem with the current engine is that you definately have to start by copying an existing skin (99.9% B2)... then things get complex (what is "your" design, what is B2 idea?)

if at least there was a comprehensive list of what changes in B2 between SVN...

    Hi,

..yes, making a new skin is a big work but it makes also much fun. :)

But the problem is, after doing the skin you must maintaining the skin over a long time with all the changes and new things that comming in mp.

..otherwise all developers has made the big job before to make the changes and all the new stuff for mp. ;)

    Greetings Harley
