    Hi,

I had the dreaded 'Timeshift could not be started' yesterday evening but only on channel No. 7 (ProSieben). All other channels still were working. I have attached the logs. After I closed MediaPortal directly after selecting channel No. 7. This channel did not work until about 2 hours ago when it strated to work again. I had this on some occasions during the last 6 months but as it cured itself after some time I did not seek help. Having set up a new HTPC three weeks ago (HTPC 2 in my System Specs) I thought it would go away. But now there it is.

For your information. I had a DD Cine S2 V7 from the first day of installation. But it turned out that tuner 2 had troubles and I got 'Nothing found' during a scan (not 'no signal' but 'nothing found'). I returned the card to Digital Devices but they said its o.k. Meanwhile I had a Cine S2 V6.5 in HTPC 2. The logs were made with the Cine S2 V6.5. After I made the logs I replaced the V6.5 with the V7 which just had arrived yesterday. After a channel scan with updated satellite list I still had the same problem with channel No.7 until this evening when channel No. 7 started to work again. So in short it does not seem to be related to the TV card hardware.

Please could the developers have a look at the logs as I really would like to know what happened 'behind the curtains' and also I would like to find a cure for the problem. I have a fresh Windows 10 and MediaPortal 1.14 Pre-Release install and I wonder what causes the trouble. Thank you.

    Cheers

    Hi

It seems to be a simple case of signal strength/quality problems.

In the first set of log files the problem occurs like this...
    Happily watching RTL:
    [2016-03-10 22:17:51,248] [Log ] [20 ] [INFO ] - Controller: find free card for channel RTL Television
    ...
    [2016-03-10 22:17:52,105] [Log ] [20 ] [INFO ] - card: WaitForFile - video and audio are seen after 0,0542978 seconds

    Try to switch to SAT.1:
    [2016-03-10 22:17:56,385] [Log ] [20 ] [INFO ] - Controller: find free card for channel SAT.1
    ...
    [2016-03-10 22:17:56,520] [Log ] [20 ] [INFO ] - card: Tune on card 3 to subchannel SAT.1
    ...
[2016-03-10 22:17:59,734] [Log ] [20 ] [INFO ] - dvb: LockInOnSignal could not lock onto channel - no signal or bad signal
    ...
    [2016-03-10 22:18:00,146] [Log ] [20 ] [INFO ] - Controller: Timeshifting failed, lets try next available card.
    ...
    [2016-03-10 22:18:00,151] [Log ] [20 ] [INFO ] - card: Tune on card 4 to subchannel SAT.1
    ...
[2016-03-10 22:18:03,394] [Log ] [20 ] [INFO ] - dvb: LockInOnSignal could not lock onto channel - no signal or bad signal
    ...
    [2016-03-10 22:18:03,472] [Log ] [20 ] [INFO ] - Controller: Timeshifting failed, no more cards available.

The log entries are fairly self explanatory. No signal for both tuners.
Immediately afterwards you try to tune "kabel eins" and "ProSieben" which are broadcast from the same transponder. Same no signal result.
After that you go to RTL (successful) and again try to go to "ProSieben". Same problem.
Repeat again: RTL successful, followed by ProSieben fail with same problem.

In the second set of log files it's almost identical.
    Happily watching RTL:
    [2016-04-26 22:48:17,121] [Log ] [26 ] [INFO ] - Controller: find free card for channel RTL Television
    ...
    [2016-04-26 22:48:17,933] [Log ] [26 ] [INFO ] - card: WaitForFile - video and audio are seen after 0,0055145 seconds

    Try to go to SAT.1:
    [2016-04-26 22:48:22,102] [Log ] [26 ] [INFO ] - Controller: find free card for channel SAT.1
    ...
    [2016-04-26 22:48:22,235] [Log ] [26 ] [INFO ] - card: Tune on card 5 to subchannel SAT.1
    ...
[2016-04-26 22:48:25,441] [Log ] [26 ] [INFO ] - dvb: LockInOnSignal could not lock onto channel - no signal or bad signal
    ...
    [2016-04-26 22:48:25,746] [Log ] [26 ] [INFO ] - Controller: Timeshifting failed, lets try next available card.
    ...
    [2016-04-26 22:48:25,752] [Log ] [26 ] [INFO ] - card: Tune on card 6 to subchannel SAT.1
    ...
[2016-04-26 22:48:28,952] [Log ] [26 ] [INFO ] - dvb: LockInOnSignal could not lock onto channel - no signal or bad signal
    ...
    [2016-04-26 22:48:29,026] [Log ] [26 ] [INFO ] - Controller: Timeshifting failed, no more cards available.

    No signal again.

I looked through all the older log files as well and it seem always to be the same - no signal. Even the idle DVB EPG grabber encounters the problem.

No signal comes directly from the tuners. It's not a TV Server problem. You can even see this in the Windows system event log entries from the tuner driver:
    "26.04.2016 22:48:22";"DDTuner";"(0)";"Information";"Device 220:10000 Tune failure DVBS filter 1";"1074266233"
    ...
    "26.04.2016 22:48:26";"DDTuner";"(0)";"Information";"Device 220:10000 Tune failure DVBS filter 2";"1074266233"

There's not much more I can say than that except to suggest you check your dish alignment, LNBs, cabling, switches/splitters etc... and if that doesn't help, go to DD for support.

    Regards,
    mm

Ok, thanks for the evaluation. I will have a look on the hardware side of my installation.

    Cheers
