Hi I have mediaportal running stable now.
I really like Moving pictures.
What I would like is an option to add new files via the network to moving pictures without shutting down mediaportal en use the mediaportal setup program to configure moving pictures.

I hope I missed something where is explained how to add files.

For all other parts of mediaportal I just add files to the proper folder and the are seen and handled by the filebrowser.

Is there a tool to do so?
maybe even a tool like in the moving pictures setup where I can update the movie database?

Thanks for any feedback..
Bert

Provided you didn't disable the settings, MovingPictures will automatic detect new files added to the configured import paths and it will add the movie to the database. However in order to do so, it has to be able to match it automatic.

If you where to add "tt0499549.avi" then it has a 100% guaranteed successrate in adding "Avatar [2009]" movie to your database. If you add "Avatar [2009].avi" the odds go down a tiny bit (but not enough for auto-match to fail). If you add "Avatar.avi" it will still match it, based on popularity of the 2009 version, but if you in reality have the 2004 edition, then problems start. So start adding the IMDB tt.... number to your filenames, use NFO files containing the number, or rename your files to an exact match of the IMDB title with year and hope there aren't multiple movies released in that year with same title.

But the import is fully automatic, now movies that fail to auto-match, and need a little help, you still need the configuration screen for that. You can make a direct link to the MovingPictures configuration screen, which bypasses MediaPortal config, but if you just name your files proper, you'll never have to use it.

In the future MovingPictures will get the option to control the ability to approve those movies that failed to auto-match via GUI, but you will have to be patient for that. You can 'star' the issue on Google Code to keep updated on it, search the tickets on 'GUI' and it should popup in the list of results.

    Hi Rochess,
    Thanks, I ill try that.
    THis is what I remember.
When I first installed MP and just added a folder to MP
I started mediaportal en selected MP and there was nothing there to play.
first after manually starting the scanning of movies I saw movies appear

I will certainly add some files via the network and see if it works on the background.

I will certainly add some files via the network and see if it works on the background.

Import process is segmented to avoid bottlenecks, so first stage it will get the textual information, 2nd stage it will get some images, 3rd stage it will get more images, etc, etc. The stages can follow eachoter very quickly, or have seconds or even minutes inbetween them.

Especially on a first setup with a large collection it will take a while, and to prevent overloading not just your computer, but especially the websites kind enough to share all this information it is all spread out over time to not upset anybody.

If you really are in a hurry, start MovPic config, wait a little while, close it down and start it up again, rinse and repeat.... but if you just let it sit idle for a while, it will do it all automatic in a more peaceful manner.

You can also view the log files with MovingPictures running to see what is going on in the background, for example I use a simple batch files as follows:

    @Echo Off
    find "Removing: " "\\HTPC\MePo_Logs\movingpictures.log"
    find "Added """ "\\HTPC\MePo_Logs\movingpictures.log"
find "MovieImporter]: No exact match for " "\\HTPC\MePo_Logs\movingpictures.log"

    echo.
    pause

Which will tell me which movies got removed, added and which ones failed to get auto-approved, all while MovingPictures is running. You just need to setup a UNC share for the MediaPortal log folder, or use concurrent RDP.

You can also monitor the background process by keeping the MovingPictures configuration open at the 'Movie Importer' tab and then start adding files via Windows explorer to your import paths. Any new file that is detected will immediatly (or with small delay) show up in the 'Media Importer' section and you will see it turn to a green icon when IMDB scraper finds an automatic match, and eventually to a green icon with a white checkmark in it after it obtained all the information and added the movie to the database.

Yes, this is the noise filter, it's in Advanced Settings.

The Google Code has an improved version available that has not made it into current MovPic release yet (needs testing, verification, etc). You can however manually install it very easy, and if that still fails to improve your success rate, then let me know what type of filenames you are dealing with that fail to auto-match and I might be able to create a custom Regular Expression for you.

PS: This is in the FAQ under "Advanced settings: Using Noise Filer to clean up filenames" :D

Good thing I know Dutch :D

But yeah, see how it's working, if it gives you trouble and your filenames are not some weird acronym, then give me a list of those filenames that fail, and I can help you with a custom noise filter that will do a lot better.

AW: Re: Tool to update and correct the MP datafiles via network

hi, im sry ive still problems with the auto import and want to highlight this thread again.

im using MP 1.1.0, black glass nova for 1.1 and im using moving pictures 1.08.
the movies are safed on a fileserver. i had add network drives to this path and add the movie folder to the import dirs. all movies are on seperate dirs and got an .nfo with imdb link or the movies are renamed with tt like your describtion.
i get all my movies imported, but if i add new movies to the folders, it dont detect it.

what is the time stamp for the scan? will it scan for new movies if another playback is running? do ive to had open moving pictures?

    EDIT:
ive tried that what u said and opened the moving pictures config and go to movie importer. after 30mins it detects new movies and was searching it automatically and found the correct movie from the web, but it dont download media informations automatically... it waiting for approve... but ive all settings on auto. :-/

    anybody some idea?
